Distributor troubles

I have a quick question I recently took out my dizzy when I didn't need but I forgot to mark it.
replaced the rotary cap which was the problem. And now refitted the dizzy with no 1 piston at TDC.
I just thought I would have to readjust my timing and it would fire straight up.
It's pre-detonating, and will not run.
All leads and plugs are fine.
Any ideas?

I'd say you're 180 degrees out. Pull spark plug one and check that it is at the top of its stroke when the timing mark is lined up at TDC. Then with rotor pointing at plug one on the cap you should be fine.

You can set it up on TDC No 1 but it can be on the firing stroke or exhaust stroke. Pull the oil cap off and identify the rocker arm that you can easily see nearer to the front of the engine. Rotate the engine by hand and watch that rocker opening the inlet valve. When the inlet valve closes keep rotating engine until the TDC marks are lined up. This is now on TDC No1 on the firing stroke. The rotor button needs to be pointing to the standard mark on top of the distributor. This mark is just to the right of the condenser near the vacuum advance unit. If the rotor button does not line up with this mark then pluck the dizzy out and adjust to suit. Make sure that No 1 lead on dizzy cap is also set up to same mark. If it is set up as suggested you can try and start it but it may be a touch retarted. With clamp bolt firm but not tight slightly rotate the body of dizzy anti clockwise which will advance timing. Once started check and adjust with timing light. Hope this helps.
