possible modifications

Hi
I have an EJ stationwagon that I love. just wondering what modifications are possible to make it drive like a much more modern car, I've had everything done to the steering but it is still not flash when driving fast. Is there anything beyond the hr front end upgrade, how much does it cost, what are the benefits, and where near melbourne can you get this done?
thanks Kristen

Its all about money. Remember that its a 40 year old car so the more you do, the more it will cost with diminishing benefits. I've heard very good things about the rack n pinion steering conversion which I think is about 2500. That plus good shocks, rubbers and a rear sway bar will give you the most bang for your buck. From there you start talking big $$$ for a diff conversion, air bag suspension etc.
In Melbourne (in fact most anywhere) your first call should be to the Castlemaine Rod Shop.
But its all about the dollars...

I dorve an EJ sedan for years - mostly high speed ( high for an EJ 70mph ) It handled beautifully. Heavier springs, gas shocks, decent tyres and well maintained. The only thing I would consider doing is fitting the HR steering (not the whole HR front end) this is mostly a safety concern as the earlier steering could fall apart without warning if not properly maintained. We fitted these to my brothers EK with great sucess. I've driven an EH that had the full HR front modified to rack and pinion etc etc - handled like a pig!! I've also driven an EH with factory power steering - no feedback at all - far too light - if I owned one I'd remove the power steering! (keeping it in a glass box - of course!)
