holden 186/202

just wanted to know if a holden red 202 would fit in place of a red 186 without any mod changes or hassels with mounts g/box housing, it has to fit to a celica 5-speed. And also the difference between a Red motor and blue apart from it's age. I want to exstract this engine as well, has anybody got any ideas on a good type and availabilty of exstraction kits and exhausts?

you may want to use a blue over the red. it will mount the same, although the blue and black have a 12 port head. this head will fit a red motor with modification to the water galleries, but you are better off using the blue or black with their standard balanced cranks and lighter flywheels. the red motor has a 9 port head which to me makes no sence, and their cranks are prone to breaking at heigh revs. the black motors are said to be dogs, because holden at the time were waiting for the RB30 and had old and out of date tools. that said, I have a black motor going into my torana in the next few months.

I hope I have been helpfull and not to late ;o)

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RED AND BLUE MOTORS IS THE SIZE OF THE CLUTCH SET UPS, THE RED HAS AN 8.6 INCH CLUTCH AND PREASSURE PLATE AND THE BLUE HAS A 9.2 INCH SET UP.

no really, the water galleries. alot of people dont notice as they fit but the water doesnt flow right. you notice after a while when your motor starts to cook. you can modify the head gasket, but that makes it real thin and causes it to burst and leak into the combustion chamber. and the reason the clutches are different is because of the flywheels, due to the cranks. buy one of each, (they are only like $50 each for a short block) and compare them. really, the cranks and heads and flywheels are different.

I,m thinking of using a premium unleaded fuel (ron 98) with an additive such as castrol valve master. I don't intend to be using the car every day, just around town every now and then. Will valve seat recession be a problem? Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.
