stupid question, but why would you want to shove a red head on a black engine? if anything grab an efi head, no air injection, better flow and slightly different combustion chambers.

i don't think i've ever heard of anyone putting red/blue heads on black 202's. but i could be wrong :)

I have a 179 head on my black block. I quizzed my engine builder about this the other week, he said there are no mobs needed to put a red head on a blue/black, but you need to drill water jackets or something to fit a blue/black to a red motor.

We did it because he swears that he could get the red head to flow a lot better. Gave me the example: he had a top notch YT blue 202 head on a street/track car, it cracked, changed it to a red 202 head which he ported and gained 1 second/lap, nothing else was changed. If anyone on here knows Symmons Plains, 1 second/lap is a LOT!

Hi ppl,
there are 4 x water galleries to drill out and 4 x old ones to block up to put a blue / black head on a red block.
I thought the same applied in reverse to put a red head on a blue / black block, but i've never done it so i guess i don't know...
Mr. Blown HR...
I have heard some good things about the blower on ur 202, can u tell me a little bit about it?

True. you dont HAVE to block them up. i know mine arnt.
Though it does introduce a point of weakness giving water a few more ways to leak from the head gasket.
IMHO in a stock/mild motor it wouldnt matter much. In a performance one though i would be looking to block them up.

And when drilling holes, its beter to drill the block to suit the head, not the other way around, to preserve head strength.

Never Drive A Car Younger Than Yourself!

The black head has voids over the 4 steam ports on the red motor. IT WILL LEAK!!!!. plug the block with grub screws, just don't cut the thread all the way thru so the grubs bottom and use some lock tite. Drill some other holes in the block to mathcht black gasket; done...

Fitting the red to the black block should be no problem. The 9port heads have massive ports coz they are shared. Useless for low rev torque drivability etc etc. I swapped a yella terra 9port to a black 12port. lost power over 4000rpm but trippled power under 3000 better economy far more drivable.(stock cam, stock auto, 235 stroker)
