dodgy head job

so my 253 heads just went to dandy rebores and got tested. first thing they said was that the valves were set in to far so the heads were destent to crack no matter the stress they were put under. engine is out of warrenty. what sort or a screwed up place builds an engine for nearly 5000k and lets something like that slip through the cracks. piss poor if you ask me

hey greg hows it going?
I didnt touch them till they came off the other day. I called the guys that built it after I got it from you, they assured me they only use lpg ready valves and the heads were ready for gas. As soon as the tech had a look at the heads today he noticed the valves were set to far in and that was the problem that caused the cracks. So it would have been the reco joint or whoever does their head work. Spewing cos the engine has been awesome till now.

hope all is well out west

Go hard or go home.

So what are we saying? Has the reco mob put new seats in and cut them too deep? Or have the valves recessed too far into the ports? Get another opinion so you can be sure: Go and see Leigh at Headworks Engineering, 410 Neerim Rd Murrumbeena. Take the heads with you, let him have a good look at them. Tell him Matt recommended him to you. He's my old boss, and a damn good engineer.

Take him the valves too mate. If they've recessed into the heads so soon I'd be curious as to what sort were fitted on a gas motor.
