Brake booster identification (vh40 or 440)

Hey,

I have an eh wagon with an hr front end on it. I recently rebuilt the engine and have also rebuilt the brake booster. But, the reservoir's level has dropped slighty so i want to make sure its not going to fail and replace it.

Im not sure if its a vh44 or vh40 booster.
How do I identify this?

cheers,
DeanM

VH40 series has a 9" main diaphragm whereas VH44 only has a 7-1/2". The main body should be slightly bigger in diameter than one of these two sizes

Hey Dean, what kit did you use for the booster? Was it a pretty straightforward job? I have two here that are sus, not sure whether to do it myself or just get changeovers.
Thanks......

there are about 8 or more VH40's the one for HR disc brakes I think is VH40L, I am really stretching the brain here but think that is right...anyone?

Tim they are not all that hard to do, just be careful it all goes back correctly as brakes may lock on at anytime if not done properly, Lindsay.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I reckon I might have a go when I get a round tuit. Might put it on the 'one day' list with the rest of the stuff..

Once Lindsay prodded the old memory, I'm sure VH40L was the booster required when I converted an HR to disc brakes back in the Dark Ages.

Good day, Dean.
Perhaps your question has been answered by now but if not, I have some info from a PBR sales manual for the VH40 and VH44. It contains various external and some internal measurements, with sketches for each type. But I can't see how to attach it to this reply. If you're still looking for details, email me at rocgpw at yahoo dot com dot au and I'll send you a scan of that pamphlet.
Richard.

Top work, there Myeh.
That shed is full of "good stuff". I'll be looking there next time as a reference point, before I do much else.
Thanks,
Richard
