Salisbury LSD with discs into HT Brougham

Finally - after many years - got around to fitting up a 3.08 LSD Salisbury with discs to the back end of my Brougham. Now the rear stud pattern matches the front HQ rotors and I can fit my WB Caprice rims all 'round.

The car now stops on a 10 cent piece and with the shorter gearing than the 2.78 it originally had, it feels like a totally different car.

I like the WB Caprice rims on the Bro - I reckon they suit the "chrome bumper" look of the older Holden's whilst still being "factory"

Anyway, let me know what you think....

The conversion went in surprisingly easy; the hardest part about it was lifting the new diff up and onto the leaf springs by myself without scratching the $hite out of everything!

The brackets, U-Bolts and LSD reconditioning were provided by the diff specialist in Melbourne SE, who also reconditioned the rear calipers and provided the modified handbrake cables etc. I would have preferred standard rotors and black calipers to the drilled rotors and red calipers it came with, but thats just me being fussy.

HQ venteds on the front were simple to install; just flipped the HQ calipers Left to Right so the bleeder was on the top, fitted new rotors, pads, brake hoses and wheel bearings. Kept my original HT stub axles - which are the same as HQ anyway.

A new standard disc brake master cylinder for a HK HT HG was fitted, but with the residual valve removed from the rear brake port (not required with rear discs) before hooking them up and bleeding them.

Braking is hugely improved, and once the pads were bedded in, there is no premature rear lock up when doing a panic stop. All 4 wheels would lock at the same time, but you would REALLY have to be pushing it!

The only other thing that it needed was about 15mm or so shortened from the tailshaft to avoid binding in the gearbox extension housing on full suspension compression.

They used a VK 5.0 LSD Salisbury.

Diff didnt need shortening, as the VB - VL 5.0 Salisbury width was slightly narrower than the standard banjo, which brought the rear track out to where it should be when fitted with 7" WB Caprice rims.

Just needed the stud pattern changed to match the HQ vented discs that I am running on the front.

All up around $2K for them to source the diff, reco the LSD internals, remove and re-fabricate mounts & U-Bolts, reco calipers, new rotors & pads, new wheel bearings, new brake hoses & lines, custom handbrake cables, shorten and rebalance the driveshaft, provide new uni's and u-bolts. Even has a 6 month written warranty that covers its non-standard installation, which I thought was pretty good.
