Well, thats something I didn't expect!

The airbox I made about 20 years ago works better than the ramtubes I just shortened. I'm in the process of making a 'different' type of intake for the SUs, so cleaned up the tubes, which used to be inside filter socks. I did notice, with the box, I had more down low, slightly less up top, but figured the box may be a bit small on the bigger motor. There doesn't appear to be any reason to keep the tubes on, apart from the fact they are easier to remove while doing the new one.
Whoda thunk it???

I would be interested in knowing how you measured your performance changes.
An airbox was expiremented with on the slingshot I crew on. But we never really got to a conclusive answer - we ran ram tubes inside the box.
The box was therefor pretty big with a trumpet on the leading end.
Got fed up with it as it was too much hassle to fit and remove when we wanted to change needles / check plungers etc.
But there is definitely some thing in it - check what modern cars use.

is the way I test most things. If I can feel a difference... it's there. I don't 'expect' to feel anything, a mate of mine does, and he 'thinks' there is an improvement. I noticed the reduction in oomph straight away. I know newer cars use airboxes, but the inlet system is way different, computers an all that.

They don't make em like they used too!

I'm trying to find the pic of an air box we made for a set of SU that was the same as that,
It was plumbed into the front grille by a piece of flexi hose.
It seemed to work well, especially on cold nights.
