Questions about an LX Torana

Hey guys, about a month or so ago I got myself a 1976 LX Torana, I consider myself one super lucky 16 year old haha, but i have very limited knowledge of how the old holdens would work, so I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me or any tips to help me get reasonable performance throughout the car, without blowing alot of money, after all I do only have a job at McDonalds till I finish year 12 haha. It is running a Holden red engine 173ci and as far as I know has had no modifications. Also for my diff i have a 10 bolt or a Banjo and am seriously contemplating which one to choose. So if you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

Congrats on getting a Torana, but, don't be overly keen on doing much to it until you get a better paying job.
Parts for Toranas are super rare.
If you can get a hold of a salsbury diff out of a UC, then that would be your cheapest and easiest upgrade to a better diff.
Check for rust and if you find any,(which you will) get some rust convertor on it to slow it down until you can fix it, these cars are prime for rusting out, and they will rust everywhere, check hidden areas like behind your bonnet springs and the front radiator support, the scuttle vent up under the dash etc.
if you don't want to spend any money on it yet, then don't spend any until you need to, you can do many wrong things with a car and waste what money you do have, only to find later, without forethought, that you could have don't it better/cheaper etc.

Dislike me for who I am you may, like me for whom I'm not, you never will...
MY SHED

Thank you for that, I had checked for rust and there was abit in the passenger side tail light and there is still some on the driver side back corner (under the bumper) and some at the bottom of the rear panel just behind the wheel, I will check the other places that you suggested, but me and my stepdad are cutting it out and fabricating new pieces for it. So far so good. I am also sanding it back to repaint it so if any rust is hiding I'll find it haha. Also I'm asking alot of questions to alot of people before I spend money on it, some people may have had experience doing the stuff i ask about and I dont exactly have the money to waste at the moment.

Cheers

HI
First get a workshop manual either a gen holden one which are fairly rare and you pay big $$$ for and main one is for LH torana then there was a lx supplement but that is very rare and very thin the LH TORANA is the main one you want or get a Gregorys workshop manual, can usually find at swap meets for $10.00-$15.00..

Then go to swap meets and try and pick up the bits you need.
to help stop it from rusting give it a good fish oil ,on the floor pan inside and out , inside the sills , under the guards ,in the boot ,inside the dog legs , scuttle pnl , radiator support, etc , but dont spray the outside pnls like guard ,boot lid ,bonnet , roof .

wombat.

My first car was a mint LX.
I had read too many car magazines and didn't have the money to do the car properly. Needless to say, I rooted that car :(

Good luck with the LX....post up some pictures showing your progress :)
