Diff change

Help Guys,
308 diff has shat itself, have a 3.36:1 from a V8 HQ that I can drop in but need to know what difference it will make or am I better to get 308 rebuilt?

Basically, your car will be doing 10% more revs at the same speed in the same gear (used to be 2,000 rpm, now 2,200 rpm). It will also accelerate a bit more quickly as there is a greater torque multiplication factor in the lower (but numerically higher) diff ratio.

With a 253's general reluctance to rev too much, I'd personally chuck the 3.36 in while I had the 3.08 rebuilt if they were out of the same model car.

Unfortunately, as your car is an HZ and the diff is out of an HQ (I am assuming they are both Salisbury diffs) the mounts may not line up quite right as the HZ has RTS. Certainly, there won't be any monts for your rear swaybar on the HQ housing. It may be best to stick with the HZ diff (or you can drive like a granny with the HQ diff in there as a temporary measure).

If you do decide to put the HQ diff in (and it fits ok), be careful as your car will not handle as well as it does now and will feel quite different to drive....

i thought RTS only affected the front suspension. i think all the mounting points for the diff are identical

diff housing is the same but dose not have mounts fore stabiliser bar and no bar douse afect handling

Yes Qute they are both salisbury and 3.36 does not have sway bar mounts, after quick look at with tape they seem to be both same with control arm mounts etc but will look closer with better acess and decide which way to go.
