Hey Qute I was looking at the progress of your HQ ute project, and I have a question for you. How are you fitting the new interior rear view mirror???

Hi fx,

The Qute's going very slowly ATM. I just got the conversion engine mounts and box Xmember last week, so more progress is at hand....Then again, I work for Aussie Post and Christmas is only 5 and a bit weeks away...bugger! Many long hours to come...post your Chrissy cards early...please!

The Z28 Camaro mirror is in and the map/interior lights in it are working although the wiring currently just sits on top of the passenger's sunvisor before disappearing down the A Pillar. I'll fix that when I replace the hoodlining after she's had the chop. With the 2 lights in the mirror, the WB Stato footwell lights and the globe removed from the original interior light, the inside is LOTS brighter than it originally was. I can read the workshop manual in there in the middle of the night, no worries.

I had the mirror mounted on the windscreen when the screen was put back in after the cut n shut on the dash panel. Once I remove the original hoodlining and therefore the hole in the hoodlining where the original mirror mounts, you'd never know that it was originally in the roof.

Must almost be time for some new pics....

Cheers...Dave

Thanks Quent...Actually, I think it's a good mod for most HQ - WB Holdens as the interior lights suck on them all except for the Stato/Caprice models.

I think the screens on the earlier models would be too upright for the range of adjustment on the Camaro mirror, but these or very similar mirrors are available on a range of yank iron. Find one from a car with a windscreen angle close to your model and you're home n hosed. There are heaps of them on Ebay (to save the questions...).

Did the beers make it home OK?

Here is a link for one of the maplight mirrors.

It is currently at $13.51 Australian (US$9.99) http://cgi.ebay.com/...

And another at the same price. http://cgi.ebay.com/...

This one is at US$20 (about $27 Australian) http://cgi.ebay.com/...

From memory, postage was about $10 or $15 Aussie dollars and I received mine in 4 days from the US East Coast.

Just make sure you get the arm and the mounting pad with it...they are pretty rare in Australia.

If you don't want to go the Ebay route, Pontiworld in NSW sells them for about AU$90.
