Accelerator cable for holden 6 with 350 holley

Hi all,

Im currently running a v8 accelerator cable in my VB as thats what I was told i needed to run to put the 350 holley on it. But its come to my attention that when my foot is to the floor i only have probably 2/3 throttle at most.
I have attached 2 pictures, the first is with foot to the floor and the 2nd is when i push it all the way showing how much im losing.
There is plenty of play in my cable and it is fully adjusted.
Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? Obviously i need a shorter cable, but do i need a modified one?

Cheers
James

James, you have two problems, one being the fitting position of the cable connection on the butterfly plate, and the other being the amount of travel of the pedal.

The genuine VL V8 cable pulls from the front so you might have a look at setting it up that way.

If you stay with the rear pull cable, you need to start by drilling a new pivot pin hole forward of the hole you are presently using and as far as possible to the front of the butterfly bracket but still the same distance from the butterfly shaft or even closer, but certainly not further away, then fit the cable pivot pin in there, then adjust the outer cable or remake the bracket to suit, possibly lowering the bracket to give the cable a better angle of pull.

Bit hard to explain so I hope you understand it's all about leverage.

You also need to look at how much travel the pedal has at the cable connection under the dash and see if that travel can be increased.

with our commodores we just used to pull the accelerator pedal up meaning it bent the arm where the cable sits giving us a longer throw to get a full extension on the cable. if you know what i mean. hope this helps. cheers ray...

Hi Gary I might give that a go,

The pedal travel seems to be my main problem as I just made a spacer so it had almost full throttle but then it wouldn't return all the way.

So you literally just bent the pedal up Ray?

James before you go too far with bending pedals and stuff try moving the pivot ball into the hole with the lip, it may be enough to solve the problem. It'll help in 2 ways, the first is it's a little further forward than the hole you're using now and it seems to be a little closer to the pivot point for the throttle which means the cable needs to travel less for the same amount of throttle rotation. Hope this makes sense.

All good guys
Thanks all for the help, between a slight bend in the pedal and changing the pivot point I now have full throttle :)

Thanks for the help guy, hopefully it makes a little difference at the track next time.

Cheers
