Hi all, has anyone who has done an VN on EFI head conversion in a HQ-WB V8 used the original Holden headers. I have a set here that look like they will work on a HZ BUT I do remember reading somewhere that they will not fit. I would like to know why they won't. Where do they foul?
I am not interested in sratch building a set as this one tonner like I did for MYEH. This is a BUDGET build. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks. If that's all it is I can easily deal with that.. I'll cut the flange off and replace it with a 3 bolt collector. Then once the engine is in I'll work out the best position for the 02 sensor bung and weld it in....

I done it around 15 years ago, I used aftermarket vn v8 extractors in a HZ. The location of the o2 sensor bung was the only problem. you may also want to consider insulating the starter motor, my starter always struggled after a good drive due to the heat. A second thought from memory you may also need to use the vn style starter to clear the later extractors.

Before I left Bosch I purchased a VT 5litre starter motor. This version BXH138 is like the VN-VS reduction starter BUT it comes already fitted with a heat shield AND it's a few dollars cheaper than the VN style. Not sure how that makes sense but it was cheaper. Theres a pic of the one I used. The extractors actually touch the heat shield. I will bend the heat shield slightly to create an air gap and help reduce heat transfer.

The gear reduction is definately the way to go. When referring to the vn style starter I was thinking of its slightly differing position of the solenoid compared with earlier models. From memory VS was the first with gear reduction? gear reduction was something I looked at changing to but at the time they were ridiculously expensive, combined with obscene prices for the two shorter bolts required I lived without it.
