HR Ute Rust Repair

Hi All,
Just getting ready to fix the rusty area around the front spring hangers on the rear of my ute. Part of the repair is to replace part or all of the rear subframe that connects to the under body subframe via rivets. I am looking at viable options that will allow me to replace it while retaining or improving structural integrity. One thought was to leave the flange that the rear subframe connects to to underside by rivets and welding the new fabricated subframe to this. I would not expect a engineer to be too impressed with bolting it in. Has anyone performed this fix before and how was it done?
Also, can anyone tell me if the rear floor pans that are available to fix sedans are viable options for using to repair the ute rear floor area.
Sorry for the lengthy post.

The front and rear floor pans are a match for the ute. If you have a shufti in my shed you'll see I did much the same as you're planning. I'm currently doing the exact same spring hanger repair on my brother's HT ute. My advice (as recommended to me by StreetNeat, our resident metal fabrication and car restoration wizard) is to find a donor car (wagons, utes and vans share the same floor and brace sections) and cut the area out, then transplant it. When I blew out the massive GMH rivets that hold the HR spring hangers in, I replaced them with high tensile bolts. My ute was still registered so I didn't have the engineer kerfuffle, but really, there's no other option. I'll stand corrected, but surely new high tensile bolts and nuts are a far better option than 45yo medievel rivets!

Have a look at my shed, and contact me if you have any more questions. Happy to help!!

Cheers, Matt

Thanks Matt, Much appreciated. Thinkiing about it if I use Button head bolts as well, they can more easily be 'Hidden' using stone guard and made to look a bit like rivets.
