I bought these to go on the Q, NOS $40.00
Does anyone have a diagram to show the correct mounting, I know where they go but it looks like I'll have to drill some holes in the cross member and either tap a thread or weld a nut in?

Cheers
Tony

Big block HZ 1 tonner
HQ SS
WB van
HJ coupe

They came out on the HZ's to help strengthen the chassis rails. On the earlier HQ's to HX's the metal was thicker and the chassis were much heavier so Holden in their wisdom went to a lighter gauge metal as the the earlier rails lacked flexibility and were prone to cracking. The HZ's rails had their own issues with the upper control arm mounts cracking, an issue that was rectified on the WB's with gussets welded into place. The strengthening rods pictured were put in place to stop the rails from collapsing if and when a vehicle was parked hard into a kerb and other. As for their fitment, well all you need to do is stick your head under a HZ or WB and look for the four half inch holes that were drilled at the factory, you'll need 4 1/2" medium tensile bolts around an inch and a half long, 4 nuts, 4 washers and 4 spring washers, the bolts drop down and the nuts are fixed on the outer. To get the bolts into the centre x-member all you need to do is weld some coat hanger wire or alike and feed them in under the lower control arm bush.

cheers....

***arm chair expert***

So Waz there is really no need to fit them to my HQ then, I did hear story's about the chassis rails cracking, (I thought on the V8 models) but that must have been only the thinner HZ rails as you say.
Also some one told me that they were part of the RTS system.
If not needed then I wont fit them.

Thanks for the input guys.
