Hi all,
I'm building my Grandpa Sleeper, now I have seen it done and it looks tuff, I want to run standard 14x6 Whitewalls on front but on the rear I need a bit more rubber with my build, so want to get get a rim chop it in 1/2 and weld another section in to make the rim sit futher in under car ( don't like the deep dish , that stick out gaurd )
Has anyone done it, and can anyone recommend anyone in the Melbourne area?
Thanks

wide stockys
The best way to do it is to have the centre taken out of the original band and welded into a new wider band. Having a strip put into the middle of the old band is harder to get both outer edges parallel, and I think it's illegal. Before he left here Dusty had some rims modified with new bands, Neway wheels comes to mind.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy car parts, and that makes me happy :)
Get new bands fitted
, I had some GTS done 8" wide for $130 each , I stuck with 14" but you can go to a 15" and keep same centres if you choose. Welding a piece in is not legal not to mention dangerous.

Befor you do something stupid
Befor you do something stupid like that (even if you know how to weld) check to see if you can get the tyre size you want. 14" tyres are getting hard to get, do what above poster said, there very good and are not that expensive and atleast you know it's done spot on, they've been doing it for a long time
