Open space?

Hi All

Anyone in Vic (Werribee to Geelong) have (or know of someone who has) a corner of a paddock or similar I could use to teach my son to drive? He's way to young to be on public roads but he's car mad and wants to get into motorkhanas - you only have to be 12 years old to get your low speed CAMS license.

There's a few places/clubs around that run the events, which we'll join, but no-one seems to allow any activity beyond competing - ie they don't just open the gates for practicing etc due to insurance issues. There's not much point showing up to compete and having him bunny hopping all over the place!

I'd obviously sign any waiver's required, would not damage fences etc and am happy to pay a small fee each time if required.

Just putting it out there - I could always find a quiet road in the sticks but I'm trying to behave :)

Cheers
Rob

Rob,

Try to contact CAMS directly to find out who runs the Ignition program in that area. This is the better way to get him started, and it is run in a fully supervised program, which incorporates both a practical and a presentation series of sessions.

I am surprised that the clubs don't run any kind of testing/practise session, as if they are CAMS affiliated, the club can get permits for testing/practise days.

Cheers,

Webber

Thanks Webber

I'll look into the CAMS Ignition program :)
A few of the local clubs do hold practice days and come and try days but they seem fairly few and far between. We'd definitely be attending those sessions but I'm ideally looking for pretty regular practice sessions to begin with at least.

Cheers

My Shed - Brown EH Special.

You will find that they run them very infrequently as they are not able to staff them as readily as a competition weekend.

We tend to run single day events with a test n tune on the Sunday, but this is only 3 times a year, if that. But at the same time, we usually run a number of Ignition/Drive days throughout the year at different events, though they are all up country.

Good luck with it and let us know how you go with it.

Cheers,

Webber
