Hi all,

Havnt posted up lately, been pretty flatout at work and unfortunately the VB has been a bit neglected. Thought i'd just put up a quick update. Well i got a hold of a cheap set of springs and its been lowered a bit, i like the height at the front but the rear has to come down a fraction more, not much and it will be perfect. Anyway i've got my blueslip all done so now im just waiting on funds to get it on the road.

Im doing everything I can to get it on the road before this sunday coming intime for the Sydney Street Commodores Cruise For Charity. Its been a target for the last 12 months and ill be realy dissapointed if i dont make it so with a bit of luck i'll have it on the road this friday or saturday just in time :)

As this is the first time i have even registered a car for the first time can someone help me out as to what i have to do. This is what i'm under the impression:
1. Blue slip
2. Green slip
3. Take all paperwork to RTA and pay rego and away you go :)

can someone who has done this before let me know if im right and if not what else has to be done because last thing i want is to go to the rta and not have everything and get knocked back.
And let me know what you think of the ride height.

Cheers
James

1/ Blue slip

2/ Green slip

Once you have those two organised the RTA will be glad to take your money.

I think the RTA or RMS or whatever it's called this week has all the AUVIS requirements on their website.

Yes, blue slip, green slip, take it all to RTA. Don't know if you have a receipt of purchase or old rego papers made out to you, but the RTA will want to see something. I was in your predictament 2 years ago and this is what they require.

Yes make sure you have a receipt of some sort or they'll send you away. Receipt for the car, and a receipt for the engine if its' been changed (sorry I can't remember if you've done that).

Like keijames I had that problem with my blue slip a few years ago. I had the change of ownership document from the owner, blue slip, green slip, engine receipt, a few other things but it was a relative and no receipt was made between us. Because we're relatives right, and the car is a rust bucket so no money changed hands. I stood before the RTA lady and she said "I need the receipt with sale value to work out the stamp duty."

I said: "It's 30 years old and has rust all over, it has no value."

RTA: "Without a receipt for stamp duty it can't be registered."

All they wanted at that point was to put their hand in my pocket for stamp duty (tax) and without it, too bad sunshine. Such a farce...I then had to run around and get a receipt, eventually paying $3 stamp duty.

So long story short...have all your papers with you.

Long time looker, first time owner.

I was in a similar situation as my Dad gave me the car but I anticpated it being an issue so I had a receipt from him for $500 and had no issues re-registering it.

Well done. It's good see it's finally ready to go.
As the others said, blue slip, insurance, green slip, rego.
If you don't have your receipt for the car you can fill in a statuatory declaration at the RTA stating that you bought the car from a person now unknown as you have lost your receipt. The RTA will do a revs/stolen vehicle check on the car and engine number. I went through this procedure with the EH and the bloke confirmed the full ownership history from new in 1963, including the history of the replacement motor in it.
Just be patient and respectful. Don't give them a hard time and they'll do all they can to help. Whatever you do, DON"T even suggest that it is modified. The car is standard as far as they are concerned if the blue slip doesn't mention modifications. I'd get a lift or drive another car to the registry as you aren't supposed to drive it until it's registered.
Are you able to get it registered and insured in your parent's name? You don't have to be listed on the policy to drive it if you are under 25. The difference with not being on the policy is you pay a higher excess if you have a claim, most are around $2,500 for unlisted undr 25 year olds. The big plus of being insured under a parent's name and listed on the policy is that you will save around $200+ on the green slip and possible the same or more on the insurance.
Try Shannons for your insurance and greenslip, they sell GIO greenslips at a similar or cheaper price than GIO and GIO are the cheapest.
And remember, if you want to give it a bootful, join your local sporting car club and get into some khanacross and motorkhana. It's much more fun than doing it illegally on the street. You don't need an expensive race car to enjoy club level motorsport.

Old is good.

My sons beetle was unregistered when we bought a year ago, needed a blue slip. The combination of Blue slip and 17 year old driver made the green slip expensive. Was $560 through Shannons, give them a call, you should be able to save on the price you have above

James it's good to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

As others have said, you need to:

1) Get a Blue Slip
2) Get a green slip, to get a green slip for an unregistered car I'm fairly certain you'll need to go to the insurers store to get it. I think from memory you can get it over the phone but you'll need to wait for them to post it too you before you can register the car. Before you leave their store make sure that the VIN number on the green slip perfectly matches your VIN. If it doesn't the RTA will make you go back and get it ammended before you can rego the car.
3) Take the blue slip, the green slip, purchase receipt, your ID (Your licence) and the funds to pay the rego fees. Don't forget to allow enough funds to cover the transfer fee and stamp duty as well.

Thanks everyone, yea it's good to finally be the time to register it.
Through doing online quotes that price above that I did seems to be about what I'll be paying unfortunately which means I'm going to miss the cruise for charity this Sunday unless mr tax man gives me my tax back this week as I'm going to be a few hundred short which is disappointing.
Yea I'm going to be registering and insuring it in my dads name most likely to make it cheaper depending on how much cheaper it makes it, if it's only 50 bucks or so I'll do it in my name.
Will try Shannon's and see what they are like for a quote hopefully a bit less than aami

Yea I won't be mentioning its modified and it won't be coming to the rta with me either when the time comes.

They do Green slips as well, if you can afford to insure it in your name do it because you will then have a history and be able to build a no claim bonus.

You can do the Green slip over the phone and the insurance company will notify the RTA online within about 45 minutes.

Yea that's why I'd like to do it in my name but will all come down to the money.

I'll give Shannon's a buzz Tomorow and are what they come in at.

What a joke
Shannon's cant give me a quote without me being already insured with them.

Will probably just stick with aami for now. Everyone seems to be roughly the same.
