Torana door locks - solex?
Morning all,
Has anyone used those aftermarket door locks (solex?) on their old holden?
What results?
Do they fit properly?
If not them, has anyone bought aftermarket original style locks and keys? Anything to report?
Cheers,
Emu

Solex locks
Hey Emu,
I've used the Solex Brand locks and they were good.
But then I tried a cheaper alternative for a mates car - not good at all.
If you're going to do it use genuine 'Solex' Locks.
if you know ow to open them
if you know ow to open them there very easy to unlock, just another deterent i suppose.
Solex locks..
THANKS
Yeh I used em on a HX and a HK. It was real easy to fit em all up, and never had a problem with em, worked excellently.. Might even get some for the HG now that ya mention it..
Interesting
There are some cheap ones on ebay but I'm not convinced they are specific to any sort of car.... check these ones? Do you reckon they are meant for torana's?

torry solex
They look like the ones I got for mine, pretty hard to tell if they're suitable only off the packet.. Mine were ebay jobs.. and I'm 99.9% they were legit..
Iv don't know anybody who
Iv don't know anybody who picks car door locks to gain entry to them. Small rod down the window cavity and pull up the lock button rod and your in.
And besides, the old Holden side bar locking mechanism is a far more secure lock.
Waste of time effort and money.

picking locks..
eh? My HX was knocked off twice from the PUB!! used to drive em home.. Found it a suburb away both times, still fuel in it and nothing harmed.. I know how they got in.. definately through the locks, bought solex.. never happened again.. I used to know fellas that would test old keys in heaps of cars, would always get into 1 or 2 via the locks, not the window cavity..
New door locks
I grabbed a set of replacement locks from Kingswood country last November and they are fine.
It was a full set for the ute (two doors and an ignition barrel) and it has been fine after I replaced one of the rods - it had been broken prior, as the rod wasn't long enough to properly locate in the back of the lock mechanisim. Passenger side was ok.

solex
i have them and love them, mine are dead locked so the ONLY way they can be opened is with the key from the outside or twisting the whole lock out of the door you can use the button to unlock them its a pain in the rain having to unlock passenger door before yours, but no one can put anything down your window to unlock it and you wont lock your keys in the car because you need the keys to lock them, mine fitted perfectly, i got them from auto barn on super cheap
- Theres no replacement for displacement-
Solex locks
They have the same size key as many of the bike locks hence kids more likely to try and open them. Apparently a certain type of BIC pen inserted in the key hole can get them open. Main thing with them is they'll stop someone from just ramming a screwdriver in the normal type lock and twisting it open. Headless lock knobs and solex locks could be enough for a thief to rob something easier.
Emu-locks..
THANKS

Or this.
Or if you're using a column shift, try this.

They don't make em like they used too!
door locks
Back in the day, "I knew a bloke" who would have a small phillips head screw driver ground to a sharp point and only 40-50mm long. It was welded to the flat side of a piece of 75 x 75mm flat bar. He would walk up to the car door with the tool in the left hand, place it right beside the door lock and thump it hard with the right. The steel spike penetrates the door skin, right under the arm on the lock. Lever the arm up and the door unlocks as quick as anyone can with the key.
I would suggest to anyone who has their door locks out, door skins off, cut a piece of 3mm steel about 100mm x 100mm with a 25mm hole in it and sika it to the door skin around your door lock.
Solex locks prevented this, but the key from an old coke fridge fitted the solex lock. It would not turn, but lock in to the barrel. A piece of pipe welded to the key gave enough leverage to turn the whole lock. It would tear the locating keys in the door skin and the "locked" solex lock, would push the rod up.
Solex locks made it about 2.5 seconds longer to gain entry to your loved car, so I'm told.
Unfortunately
Locks are for honest burglars. If they want it... they will have it. Insurance companies like them, they know you are taking the effort to keep your stuff, sometimes reducing your premiums.
They don't make em like they used too!
