VN Commodore Stereo Wiring

Hi all,

I am doing some work on the VN Commodore for a change not the FJ's. I am installing a CD player in the car, I just removed the old tape deck, and was wondering, if anyone could tell me what each wire is for. If unable to get an answer here I will get the tester out and work it out.

The following is a list of the wires off the stereo loom.
brown (with black stripe)
blue (with orange stripe)
yellow (with blue stripe)
blue (with black stripe)
black (with white stripe)
yellow (with red stripe)
orange (with white stripe)
yellow
light brown
light grey
dark green
light green

Any help would be appreiated

Regards
Jason

Yep 100% sure about the colors, Its a 91 VN Commodore - the unit that came out of the car is a Eurovox Model MCC-6615V, the car has electric aerial.

I know this is an old thread but with the wiring of a head unit into a VN the best way to do it is to leave the original plug in the car and go to Supercheap/autobarn and get an adapter for about $10-$20. Much better than cutting the plug out this way you can install the original head unit with minimal fuss. I have done this quite a number of times on VN, VP, VR, VS. The brand is Aeropro( i am sure there are others but this is the only one my local shop carry) and it is to adapt the VN wiring to a generic radio(i am not sure what make). The is the VN socket on one end and two plugs on the other. If you cut the two plugs off and then fuse the remaining plug with the radio you wish to install it makes it a much easier install because you do all the work out of the car and just plug it in.

IIRC, you go to Auto1/Supercrap/etc and buy a Commodore Door-pin remover. They are quite cheap.

Theirs a tool *bangs head* lol. We spent ages trying remove those ****ers, in good old MAX ELLERY he said to but a nail punch which made them tighter and tighter. A Backyard way of doing it get a good pair of vice grip do them up real tight on the pin and smack with a good solid hammer. and lots of WD40. Though the tool sounds like a better option.

1 motor bike spoke and retainer grind the retainer down slide the spoke through the pin screw on the retainer and use the spoke like a slide hammer 2 taps usually pulls the pin out free and clean.

pulled 4 doors off a commy in 2 minutes with this exact same "tool"

Sounds even better then our way, ours took bout 2 minutes per a pin depending on how tight they were, but the tighter they were the more pissed we got with it and in a couple of cases we used the sledge hammer, and suprisingly no panel damage lol. Still Max Ellery's way is a joke, at first we didnt really think bout wats it was doing intil we realised they are a split pin and we were just making them tighter. DAMN MAX ELLERY and his $50 Manual.

Ahh, I think I see what has happened here... presumably the pin in question is a "roll pin" not a "split pin"

And I would guess that the nail punch you were using was actually a centre punch (pointed tip)?

Yes, a centre punch will open these pins up and make them tighter every single time. The correct tool for this is a Pin Punch, which has a flat tip and a straight shaft (for at least 2" or 3")...

For small pins (like dizzy and oil pump drive gears) a suitably sized nail, cut square on the end makes an excellent pin punch.

the splash shield inside the guard has to come out should be three screws along the wheel arch and then some clips undrneath you may have to take your wheel off. once off get a 13m socket its only one bolt holding it. wiring loom is under passenger carpet
