SLR 5000 Chassis number

Hi All,

I have a LH SLR/5000.

Also I have received a letter form Holden confriming the vin as an slr/5000.

I cannot find the number on the chassis rail. I assume three things.

1. Car has been re-bodied
2. Deeply hidden onder multiple layers of paint.
3. Has had a front end body repair at some time.

It does look like the plates may have been of at some time, but this aint a new car and it has had a lick of paint at some stage.

Is this a problem, does it affect the value?
Where is the exact locaton of the stamped body number?
If it has been re-bodied are any the shells the same?

thanks

Dave..

It is located on the driver's side chassis rail, just near the radiator.

They are often covered in paint and difficult to read. If in a large front ender, it may have had this panel replaced.

It is not that uncommon to find Holdens with chassis number close to the front of the vehicle, being changed.

It is illegal to rebody.

The tags being removed from the vehicle is quite commonplace and should not de value your pride and joy.

My SLR 5000 number is as above.Actually it is 25 mm from the radiator, and 75 mm long,so if its there it should be obvious. Also as steted above it could have been replaced with a new section.I damaged mine on the passengers side, and they put a new panel in when repairing. This was in 1976, and if it had been the other side, I would not have even known there was a number there.

hey mate
the removal of tags on a car is a contraversal topic, many people (who own cars that have never had tags removed) claim that their cars are of higher value, due to the certanty that the tags belong to the body blah blah etc although there is merit to this point of view, this is simply a delusion. the removal of tags for security (ie when the car is out of your hands paint, panel work etc) should not and does not devaluate your vehicle! any thoughs?! also how did you go about getting that letter from holden? cheers mate

IF you cannot find it, how did you know what number to give them to confirm? If it was only on the rego certificate, how did you get it transferred in to your name?

Hi Circlotron,

The numbers I gave holden were the numbers off the plates on the body, not actual stamped number.

Also I purchased the car un-registered and as of today is still unregistered.

thanks
