Please Help

Hi all,

Got my car back from the mechanics today, and the front end is all fixed up.
Got new adjustable strut tops, he reco'd the brakes all round, replaced the steering rack and gave it a good wheel alignment and its like a new car now :) But, when i got back to the shed and was taking it off the trailer (I didnt load it on my dad did) it didnt sound right, and it backfired and coughed on me 4 times in the space of about a minute. It had never backfired on me since i fixed that rocker a few weeks back and was running fine until this. So I then called dad who had left and he said it coughed for him a few times aswell when he was loading it on.
The motor wasnt cold, it was at 75-80 degrees celcius so it couldnt be because its cold. I then pulled the rocker off to check if anything had come loose in there again and nothing was wrong. Put the rocker back on and went out on the street for a few laps to test out all the work the mechanic did on the front end.
Got back and pulled the rocker cover off again to check if the rockers were all getting oil now after the problem last week with them not getting oil and i'm still fiing that. But when i run it it has a weird "pop" i guess continually from the exhaust which it didnt have before i took it in. Sounds like a miss even not realy sure.

Here is a link to a video i took of it for yous to see:

Let me know what you recon it could be.

Cheers
James

sounds more like a POP than a miss could be a timing issue?
or possibly a sticky valve ?
i'd try moving the distributor first while its running see if that alters it

Thanks mate, i was thinking that after I did a bit of research this afternoon.
Maybe the mechanic bumped the dizzy and it moved just enough to upset it a bit.

Will have a look at it tomorow, more than likely it will be to much advanced hey?

Cheers

Firstly, STOP DRIVING AN UNREGISTERED VEHICLE ON PUBLIC ROADS! If you get caught, you'll go for a row. Also, from previous posts, it sounds like you're giving it heaps on these test drives. If you lose it and crash or hit someone/something, you'll be paying off the cost for the next 20 years...

If your mechanic is not familiar with adjustable rockers on a Holden 6, he may have over-tightened some (or all) of them, causing a one or more of your exhaust valve to stay open a bit...

Qute's Shed

Thanks Dave,

As far as the public rd part, its a dead quiet back street in the middle of nowhere where we rent a shed on acreage out there. You can see a good couple of hundred metres up the road both ways. with large acreages the whole way along the street. its not like im out there all day hammering up and down at 100kph all day with kids around left right and centre. I go out to test something, go up and down the road 2 or 3 times and come back in and always make sure there is no people around. I'm not giving it heeps all the time either. mainly just drive it up and back a few times like i said and give it a few little squirts.

I'll go over the valves again myself tomorow aswell as the timing to double check them. I went over them the other day (using the technique in holdenpaedia, i think its actually your technique if i remember correctly) and thought i had fixed them but they still seemed to be a bit noisy, i dont know if this is meant to be the case or not, maybe i still had one of them a bit loose. I'll just redo them all tomorow to make sure its all good :)

Cheers
James
