HZ rust help wanted please

gday all,

i've had this rust spot (so-called) fixed a year or so ago.
now look at it! me pink-slip issuer told me to fix it or no pink slip next time.

fed up with (one) useless panel beater, i'm going to give it a go myself this time..gulp.

pls see attached photos of rust.

i'm intending to repray the car next year but not before rego is due.

my main question is: what is behind this rust hole and is it in an area that can be (properly)
filled? or, will it probably need to have a section of metal cut out and new piece welded in?

ta.

Hi there

You won't know the true picture until you carefully scrap away the surface. It takes a bit of courage to do a proper investigation. Well worth the exercise. Cheers

You can have any colour you like, as long as its Fowlers Ivory,

It can be done. First of all, I'm in no way, shape or form a panel beater. I did my old monaro which was BAD.
I cut a section from another car, then cut and welded it in.
The repair turned out better than it looks. It wasn't easy, but very doable if you're game.
Remove the grille inside the door and have a feel to see if he removed metal or just bogged it up..

Looking at the pics, paint doesn't crack and bubble like that, bog does.

That is crap panel work, you

That is crap panel work, you can do better yourself

for pinkslip you just need to

for pinkslip you just need to have no rust bubbles. could sand back and bog until you do a respray.

Everyone is a

Everyone is a panelbeater
Just watch a few youtube videos, its not rocket science

if you are not so confident....

my advice is you get what you pay for. do it cheap and you will do it repeatedly. save your brass and do it right the first time, and it should last longer than you. otherwise, ball it in with a hammer and bog it to get it through with a different inspector. shop around. then do it right with good steel, from the same era if possible.

No matter how hard you push the envelope, it's still stationary.

rust repair

not long ago cut out a rear quarter from a HQ. running down that section of quarter is a panel join between the quarter and the inside panel. Moisture gets in the join and hence the rust. If your careful with your grinder you can cut away the top layer without damaging the inside panel and weld in some new steel. Like the others have said, fiddly but doable. A further note, those rear quarters will warp if you put to much heat into them when your welding. MIG is best.
