Tax returns - what are you doing with yours?
THANKS
So for those of us that are lucky enough to get a tax return what are you going to spend it on? How about $50 for membership to this site? I know not compulsory but helps out with the running costs. My measily return is going towards a new bed for my young fella with hopefully a bit left over for the car.

Tax return.....
I wish, what's worse is I watch like most of us do our current politicans wasting billions upon billions upon the sundry of society most of whom have contribute zero all whilst Australia's hard working mums and dads concern themselves with what they're going to spend their pittance upon. So much for Labor being about the core of our society......Oh well Gillard will walk away with her golden goose as will Swann, lezzo Wong and Garrett.....

Ah, There you go Waz, you've hit the nail on the head.
Most Labour voters, after getting a nice tax return, will ask the question, What can I spend this on ?
Whereas a Liberal voter will most likely ask themselves,
Where can I invest this until I need it ?
I guess that's why the country is in such a mess with 27,000 losing their jobs last month.

What a profound short little paragraph that says it all........
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for,that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.
You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

This said during the Hoover years of the Great Depression in the USA. Hoover's policies did nothing to recify the situation which was fully caused by a runaway Stock Market (Freedmanites - people who believe that Market forces will always take care of themselves and no need for Government intervention).
The Freedmanite model recently failed dismally when Western World financial institutions begged for Government welfare. In other words Market Forces did not take care of themselves and only the Keynsian Model could save it.
Hoover ultimately lost Government to FDR who implemented the Keynsian Model (the Keynsian Model says that Government should be the Economic Flywheel - it should both collect Tax and spend it to keep the Finances flowing. Keyne himself was an expert Stock Market Investor proving that his understanding of the Economic Model was much more than mere theory).
Prior to that the Great Depression was interminably entrenched because the more fortunate were under no pressure to spend. A study of the rise of Nazi Germany reveals the rise of Nazism directly related to the deprived economic State of the Nation.
In addition, the Hoover Years precipitated the biggest Crime Wave the USA had ever seen - John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde to name a few.
One of the reasons the Great Depression persisted, until the Second World War cured it, was that Western World Governments did not collect enough Tax to enable stimulus of their Nation's Economies.
The spending by Western World Governments on Armament for WWII was massive and provided Employment to many who had never held a Job.

That is all well & good T, but....
There is a big difference in government spending to provide employment and government handing out welfare payments to those who then figure they don't need employment.
I'm happy to pay my fair share, if it goes into improving the country.
I begrudge paying taxes for the government to share it around with those who don't want to do anything for it and think it is their God given right to receive support, ie: bludge of the rest of us.
I don't begrudge it to those who truly need help, only those who choose to receive help!

Too True
It could become very challenging to judge who should or should not receive assistance.
The sad part though, is almost everybody I speak to about this topic, knows somebody who is rorting the system (I know quite a few).
I can't totally blame those rorting the system either, as governments over the years, have made the system to easy and enticing to rort.
I personally couldn't do it, but I can see why so many are lured to it.

No need to get upset - I'm waiting for my old mate Karma to strike down the rorters. Failing that....a Coalition govt will be here soon to make rorting much more unpleasant :O

Big dumb....

I'm sorry hushtech your sweeping generalisation doesn't apply with me and most of the people I know. I'm a Liberal voter and am asking "What can I spend this on". Remember Johnny Howard was in government for 11 years on the vote of the common man.
The repairs to my HZ before my wedding and a few wedding costs are on my credit card. They'll be gone. The rest...baby furniture, pram etc... Very mundane :)
Whatever your occupation make sure you do a google search of the ATO: e.g. "ATO Taxation Ruling Mechanics". This is because for a number of occupations there are documents called Taxation Rulings that summarise the allowable deductions specifically allowable by them.
And if your financial situation is complex, e.g. spouse on different Medicare Levy statuses with dependants and a shared negatively geared property, the fee cost of using a tax professional is itself a tax deduction.
I'm not a tax accountant but I love tax time because I know what my deductions are and for all but 1 year of my adult life I've gotten a healthy amount of overpaid tax back in my pocket.

generalising is not easy
I think what hushtech is trying to refer to, is the dole bludgers who blow their handouts on plasma tele's etc, then cry that they don't have enough money for necesseties later, but ended up over generalising.
I don't believe every labor voter is a bludger, but I do believe a high percentage of bludgers would be more inclined to vote labor.

Tax return 'investment'*?
Hmmm.... What to do with my tax return?
Well, I was going to buy a bed, but have decided to build my own. Half finished now, so mattress shouldn't be on floor too much longer...
Personal wants -
* I'd love to buy a set of billet alloy K-T-G GTS replica wheels, but I can't justify that expense.
* Cheap sound system for car,
* coupla gig/festival tickets,
* few c.d.s maybe,
* pair of work shoes?
Personal NEEDS -
* car rego,
* classroom materials/resources.
Others -
* take my son go-karting,
* fly son and I to Cairns for a day to see the total eclipse of the Sun in Nov,
* surprise monetary gift to a friend who is 'on bones of her bum' (AND home-schools).
* renew subscription to GetUp
* repay small loan to a mate, from when I was 'on the bones of my bum'.
Not sure how much my return will be. Not all of these will get ticked off :-(
HK'ing.
* I haven't voted Labor OR Lib/Nat's in decades

Billet alloy K-T-G GTS replica wheels
Hmmm, a set of billet alloy K-T-G GTS replica wheels....
I've seen a Monaro round the show-car circuit with a set, and they looked awesome.
But the $64,000 question is: Does anyone currently make them?
If so, who?
If not, would anyone be interested?

HK HT HG style billet rims
Thanks guys, although I am not referring to the HQ style alloy rim made to look like the original HQ GTS steelies.
I was referring to unique billet wheels made in the HK HT HG hub cap style, except as a full alloy.
I saw them on a Monaro show-car a few years back and they looked awesome, but have been unable to get any info (or pics) on them since.

Foggy recollection...
I had a look at the Canterbury Wheels site but could only see the HQ-HZ GTS style, not the HK-HG style.
I HAVE seen photos of the older variety in billet alloy. I think they'd been ordered or by a Monaro owner who was an OldHold member years ago. From memory, he had all sorts of dramas with the quality and offset spec, cost, and a long delay on supply. I can't recall who the manufacturer was though...

I recall seeing these too. I don't think they were a one off - pretty sure you could order them via the website, but they weren't cheap.
I don't know if they're still around?

HK GTS style alloys
Thank you all for the detailed replies.
The pic-link that was posted is very close, but not exactly what I recall.
Although if the alloys in that pic were painted up correctly as per the original hub caps, they would be pretty close to what I remember seeing.
IIRC the KTG Monaro they were fitted to was either a dark blue or black.
But your responses have certainly provided confirmation that they DID exist.
I wonder; if there was enough interest, would someone reproduce them again?
Albeit at a significant cost, no doubt! I would be looking for either a 15" or 16" fitment to try to keep it in character with the car.
I am sure that some people would be keen for 18" or 19" - but not for me!
[maybe this should have been a separate thread in its own right, rather than an extension of the tax return thread!]

There is a ute in bendigo with a set on and the owner told me he knows where toget them. I think he got a mate in the wheel business to cast him a set. They look good. Wouldnt mind a set for the monaro

If you can find out a bit more from your mate in Bendigo, that would be great!
Interested in finding out how much, and how long, and would be very tempted to grab a set if they are not outrageously expensive....
