Spiderbait are probably the only decent, high profile band ever, out of the Finely area in Victoria. Well, even at their peak of popularity, they weren't at the level media hype of say Jack Vidgen or Powderfinger, but they were pretty big in the late 90's & early noughties.
They topped the Triple J Hottest 100 in about 1996 and had an album called 'The Spanish Galleon of Finley Lake', named after a failed attempt at a quirky (stupid) tourist attraction. I'm certain there aren't too many Finleys in Victoria.
There you go - you learn something vitally important every day!

Hmmm, not sure if you're imitating Yoda (awesomely well, I must say), or whether you often 'drink n type'.
Either way, errr... thanks!
BTW, your friend and mine - Wikipedia - says.....
"The Unfinished Spanish Galleon of Finley Lake is the second studio album by Australian rock band Spiderbait, released in 1995.
The album was named after the real Unfinished Spanish Galleon built in Spiderbait's home town, Finley, New South Wales. The Galleon was half constructed for many years, before being burnt to the water line by an unknown arsonist. It was then rebuilt in its entirety (finally being finished), then burnt down again and now no longer exists."
Ok, there isn't another Finely in Victoria. It's JUST over the border, in N.S.W. after all :-)
HK'ing.

Which just shows that I answered my own question.
So, basically, no, it was NOT the Finely referred to in the album title by Spiderbait in the mid-90's. It ever there was a 'no biggie', this must be it.
sigh....

I first saw Kram & co play at a festival I helped put on, up on the Sunshine Coast, back in '95. They totally grabbed me and I thought they were one of the best of the newer Australian bands going, back then. My 'Finley Lake' c.d. has just developed a scratch though :-(

Spiderbait were fantastic in the mid 90's. I saw them many times and every weekend they'd be on the stezza at a party or gathering in someone's backyard.
Unfortunately, their new stuff is rubbish. Yes Black Betty is a catchy number but what exactly have they changed from the original? They cleverly realised they were writing tunes that wouldn't be hits and no chance of selling the new album if they didn't put something ace in....insert Black Betty.
Don't get me wrong, I like Spiderbait and still listen to them all the time when driving along or relaxing but their old stuff is magic compared with some of the new rubbish.
They aren't alone though.
The Living End, Grinspoon, Jebediah, Silverchair and Powderfinger all suffered the same horrible demise.
Spiderbait truly 'jumped the shark' when they did Black Betty. Bloody stupid idea. For what it's worth, it gained them some deserved airplay on appalling-quality/high-rating commercial radio stations, so they finally earnt some royalties.
Even though I don't much like the last Silverchair album, it is good writing and full of progressive ideas.
Can't say the same for P'finger or Grinspoon though :-(
HK'ing.

Yep, it is so sad to watch well respected bands put out tripe that I am sure they don't even like because they think they need to go commercial. All bands mentioned above are guilty.
The epicentre was just South of Moe at Narracan.
I live 40 k North of Moe, but was on the move in the car when it hit, and felt nothing.
My anny mals were still spooked bad when I got home about 4 minutes after the shake.
The house is OK, some stuff shaken off shelves etc, and the odd crooked picture on the wall is all I can see.
Will have a look at brickwork in the light of day tomorrow and see if any cracks.
yep
It moved here in Nunawading.
