Electronic Distributor required.

Hi All

I am in need of help. i have a VN 5L built for straight LPG, this is going into a hz and i will not be running any computer, this renders the existing distributer useless. so i need a good quality replacement. does anyone have any suggestions?
cheers Greg.

thanks guys for the feedback.
i have been informed that the original dizzy will work if i use the correct module for it, i'm not up to speed with these units,so any info on what module and coil is required would be great. i have attached the dizzy for ID.
thanks again.

5l dissy

You can still use that distributor seperate to the efi.

How

Please let us know as the Blue motor Bosch dissy is getting hard to find.

Bosch Style

Electronic ignition as fitted to VC-VL Commodore and WB is the way to go. A good second hand one is the way to go if you can find one. Otherwise there are Chinese copies of the Bosch unit available brand new at a reasonable price..

Slight error

VL had the RB30 motor ..Not being critical, just helping :-)

Critical error

Sorry, just relised it's a v8 in question
I'll crawl back under my rock :-?

Get a third opinion

The VN dissy will not work without the computer. If someone has come up with an after market system using this dissy I would be interested to know. There is no such thing as far as I know and I work in the industry. Like I said if someone reckons they can make it work please let us all know.

Hi myeh, ICE ignition in

Hi myeh, ICE ignition in Melbourne use to make a box for them that allowed you to program your own advance curve, don't know if they were any good or not or if they still make them, hope this helps, cheers Glenn.

ICE

didn't you have to use this with the original computer though. It just modified the signal to the ECU and the ECU still cotrolled the ignition module.

From memory there was 3

From memory there was 3 boxes, 1 was an amplifier, 1 was to suit computer controlled cars and 1 was a stand alone to be fitted to older carby cars. I've never used them or know any one that has so can't comment. I would think a blue motor electronic would be better as they are high energy and the VN is only medium energy. If I was running the Chinese copy Bosch, chuck all the Chinese electricals out and replace with genuine Bosch, cheers Glenn

ICE box

They do have a suitable box, not sure of the p/n but it has a barbed connector where a vacuum hose goes on, and you can select 16 different advance curves. It =will= take the signal directly from original VN V8 distributor, and drive the coil. No factory computer or ign module needed. Only good for carby or straight LPG because it does not do injection. Also doesn't control IAC (idle speed) valve. The distributor might need to be altered slightly so the phasing of the chopper wheel and the rotor suit the box.

VN efi dizzy

I hope to find out by Saturday how it can be done. It could be just a hearsay, but a friend from work is trying to chase it up with some guy into hotrods. If he has any luck I will pass it on. as i said previously I'm not up to speed with these, so I'll sift through any info i get.

Shot

Would you post up a Shot of the Distributor from above so we can see the Trigger Mechanism?

I'd like to add the Shot to Holdenpaedia.

dizzy overhead view for T

hi T.
As requested i have attached a overhead shot to the original post.
greg.

When you add this to the pedia note that the 800 dissy only suits VN and early VP. VP late to VS uses dissy with last 3 digits 801. A simple adaptor cable converts the early to the later one. VT V8 series 1 is different again.

VN dizzy shot for T

hi T more photos for you.
As for my original post, i think i'll be looking for the blue motor bosch unit.
Greg.

Priceless

Thanks again for the Shots.

I like those original blue Motor Distributors too. Very tough, easy to fix and throw an impressive Spark.
