Who used to like them?...

Comments

I am glad I was around to see and be part of it.
It was a time that just couldn't be repeated today.
I like the American large vans too.
Young people today don't know what they missed. Can you imagine trying to get friendly on the back seat of a Kia Picanto?

There was mint green FJ van in Sydney that was built a bloke whose name was Tony Hannah.
It was perfect. There is no other way to describe it. No flash murals or customising, just perfection in the details.

I think he lived on the northern beaches in Sydney.
I first saw it a van show in Narrabean or thereabouts.

Yeah the Uncle said it was a Mint Green Metallic colour and he's sure the original builder of the van still owns it,he's going to make more investigations about it for us๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™‚

If I'd built that van I wouldn't part with it either.
Do you remember a chopped early Transit van called Old Brown Shoe? It had a 6" top chop and a mid mounted 351 Windsor. There was strip mural of a top fueller down one side, drag boats down the other. I knew the owner. He did all the work including the murals himself in his father's shed three doors down the street from my home. It was a show winner and his first custom. Clever bloke.

Old is good.

But you never know a blokes circumstances
Just for example
My 66 HR Ute, I strip it, repaired it, painted it myself with all the good stuff
Being in The ADF and being deployed to the Middle East, well ya got a 50/50 chance of driving it IF you come home
I sold mine
I wish I never did BUT who can see the future ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thereโ€™s a old fella in Just out of Cairnsโ€™s with a HJ van factory 253 4speed
Itโ€™s had a makeover in the back, arch way with mirrors tiles, tv minny bar and walls full of shaggy carpets
On the outside itโ€™s a window less but he added a sun roof plain paint factory silver/ gold and just jelly beans wheels
The thing is it still gets people liking it and itโ€™s still rather cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž

in the early mid 80s, towards the tail end of the Van era...at the time it was all I could afford as a first year apprentice, a 202 HX Trimatic van that had about 180,000km on it - stock..for $2800..over the next 2 years...in went a 253 trimatic I bought from a guy who had an HZ wagon who put a 350 into that...I bought a premier front nose section, lights and radiator support panel from a wreckers and partly exchanged my Hx front in the deal..lowered it about 2 inches...set of mags with radial TAs..twin exhaust...euravox stereo...put in a sun roof and had the headliner redone in brown crushed velvet...so that then went onto the dash and door cards as well.:-)..built an arch behind back seat (it was actually a hexagon shape)...some cupboards that ran along each side...they were covered in "wog fur"...as was the inside of the rear tailgate...and built masonite covers for the side and rear roof that was covered in gold padded material..thick foam base cut to size...it was all good fun at the time..just a late teenager..In the end I kind of got a bit tired of all the jokes and not being taken seriously as well as some unwanted attention from local scumbags...so I traded it in on a sedan...:-(
