Hi Kel Triple D and Fx48_eh64
Well spotted Kel. It had me going for a while and nothing I saw fitted the bill
The old pull was obviously place into the flaired/chamferred ply after the diamond material had been laid n glued n tacked then placed on some sort of mandrel and flaired to secure. But this only flaired it to part of the thickness of the ply. It worked well and stayed put for 60 odd years.
So I looked at various eyelets available x Uk etc thinking that one with a long shank would do the trick, but nothing appeared available with long enough shank. Thats when i got onto local Coy here in NZwho sell a multitude of belt buckles etc and then i saw these Casted Eyelets
coy is GDL Importers and Merchants 66 John street Pukekohe NZ

Went and had a look and found the one I used. Was relatively easy to it just 3 holes to drill and hardest part was finding 3 long screws that had sufficient reach to attach to underside ring.Item came with 3 tiny screws but of no use.
After much procrastination and going through buckets of bits i found the necessary albeit they were too long so long story short i placed upper ring on turned board over screwed 3 in place with touch of Loctite on each. Having already put 3 nut right up to head of each bolt Turned board over and using dremel cut off the heads wound nuts off to realign the threads screwd down tight but not too much and upper ring has minimal thread in lug.Found three chrome domes and that was it
Note I aligned 3 drilled holes to ensure your finger can pull on underside ring without pulling on securing nuts.Bit pf a mission but nothing else seemed to be available.
The rarespares ring i think is just for the lower tailgate opening handle ferrule decoration only and not big enough anyway Few pictures fyi

I would assume the ring would have to be flared on the underside of the wood cover, or do they come in two parts and screw together from both sides of the wood.
