FJ HUBCAPS

A mate has some FJ Hubcaps. Some have red backgrounds and some are black. Which models had what colour? Ute? Van? Business Sedan?
Cheers,
Ron

Without seeing pictures of them, aren’t the lion on red background FJ and the black centred caps 48-215.

FX and FJ hubcaps are in no way similar. I've seen FJ hubcaps in both red and black in the centre.

I realise the Centre emblems differ between the two models, however I was referring to the colour, signifying the two different models. Like I said, without seeing photos of what you’re referring to it’s hard to say.

I thought the standard FJ was black and the Special was Red ?
As the Special was the luxury model for its day

with description as follows "A metal dome-shaped hub cap for a Holden 48/215 motor car. The hub cap has the Holden symbol, a lion, in the centre in red. A black circle surrounds the lion. There is rust on the back of the hub cap.".
And an FJ Hub cap from FJ Holden owners club...looking at plenty of pics Standards, Specials and Utes...they all look the same on the FJ..a metallic lion surrounded by red disc...often fading or faded...so could black ones be after market?

Correct, I just finished re-painting a set of FX caps that were re-chromed.

Andrew, spot on mate. I had pulled up some pictures I’d taken at car shows this morning and every FX and FJ had the caps you’ve pictured.
I was actually looking for the pics I took of the FJ caps I painted earlier this year.
Like I said, it’s a bit hard knowing what ol’ mates talking about because I can’t see inside his head. I had a HG Monaro that had green centred emblems on the stock hubcaps.... and that’s because I painted them that way. Point is, old mate might have something that’s been painted in the past 70 years

is that black ones have probably been re-painted at some stage...looking at old sales brochures, Nasco accessory books, and lots of pics of cars etc...all FJs seem red...be interested to see a couple of diff cars with black? I'm no Fx/FJ expert though...would like one but don't have space at the moment...maybe one day..

Thanks for your wealth of knowledge? I know that FJ hubcaps were red and FX were black. I just asked if any model I had nothing to do may had black centres? Mate is in NZ.
Thanks anyway.

Ron

a pic of a black one if your mate can send one - a good close up...be interesting to see, also if any part numbers or manufacturing details...I'd conclude by saying both FX and FJ hub caps are red..FX red lion and FJ red lion surround...excluding the black ring on FX and black radial lines on FJ.. be great if someone can post a good pic of something different...a good Q anyway..
