I found a car but the vin is only 11 numbers can anyone help

They only had 11 digit vin numbers in the early 70s.
Earlier Holdens only had 6 digits.

Many people are getting confused about what a "VIN" actually is.

From 1989 onwards, the chassis number & the VIN are the same for all cars. This is called an ISOVIN.

Before this came along, cars were identified for rego purposes using the chassis number, which as the name suggests is stamped into the chassis (or body) & is also repeated (for cars built 1970 onwards) on the ADR compliance plate.

Just to confuse everybody the RTA/VicRoads also call the chassis number, the VIN number, even for early cars.

The Holden VIN on the other hand is on a separate plate appropriately called the VIN plate.

Early Holden VIN plates (HK to HQ) had 13 digits, HQ to VL had 14 digits. The one posted is not an Australian VIN, it is from Indonesia, which is different again.

If RTA or VicRoads (or whatever) ask for a VIN for legal purposes they mean the chassis number.
