hz v8 253 not idling

hey guys, after some advice,
i rebuilt my carby after realising the accelerator pump was dried up and not working.. and now i have issues with the engine starting to run ruff and wanting to stall once the engine is warm....it starts and runs fine with the auto choke and runs good when choke releases to normal idle, then after 5 or 10 minutes of nice idling, it starts to cough and wants to stall. any advice on what to look for is greatly appreciated. ps im not a mechanic but can do some basic maintenance. also, my oil light is on at idle and goes out when ya give her some revs...?? thanks and merry x mass to all

maybe it's running too lean once warmed up and choke totally open..have you tried to richen up the idle mixture to see if it idles better...assuming the oil level is correct and the engine isn't making any rattling noises....is the oil light only coming on when engine hot? if it is you could try a thicker oil...how many Kms? has the engine done?...I've had a few Statesman's that had an oil gauge..in every one of them the oil light would come on when the engine was hot and idling in drive...a few rpm extra and it would go out eg putting in park...the owners manual actually mention to only be concerned if the light comes on above idle speed..had a 253 Hz Van and it didn't have a gauge just the light...the light never came on when idling...If you can't measure the pressure I'd start by trying a higher viscosity oil...it may be a sign of engine bearings getting tired if high mileage..the oil pump and sender unit could also be suspect..
