if not changing the tank, most people run an external electric pump, and just modify their existing tank with a return line

Hi I put a VN 304 in my HZ ute about 10 years ago and used a Holley blue fuel pump as a lift pump to a 1ltr serge tank then used a Bosch 044 pump to feed the engine I have never had any issues with the setup. There is a guy on YouTube putting a 5ltr EFI into a HJ wagon the channel is called The skid factory and the Iron Lion is his project worth a look.

Go hard or go home.

I have a holly blue mounted behind the drivers seat.
It is rather loud.
To the point of I would like to change it but don’t have time or money at the moment
Wish I had done a in tank pump to keep it quiet
I think I remember seeing ppl modifying the original pickup / sender unit and putting a van-vs pump in the tank

When I first mounted my Holley blue pump it was very loud also but I then used the rubber mounts the VN commodore had for its pump I don't hear the pump anymore with the engine running.

If your car is a sedan, a coupe or wagon, just fit a complete VN to VS fuel with its internal pump set-up.

If your car is a ute, van to One-Tonner you can weld a steel ring into the top of the original tank to accept a complete VT/VX pump module.

I've used both methods & they work well with no noise or reliability problems.

Sorry I Don’t have a pic with me, I’m a fifo worker
I run a VDO lift pump from the tank to a 3Lt catch can and a carter fuel pump on a TPI Chev
The QLD blue plate date is the year 2000 and I’ve never had any problems

Just got my wife to take a couple of pictures of my fuel pump system,
This was done in the year 2000,
Now a days you can get the in line tanks system from places like castle main rod shop or vpw or Rocket, I’m told
