2 x HD tail lights. I get it, trying to think outside the box and keep it Holden, but could’ve put ‘65-66 Mustang tail lights and been done with it, and wouldn’t have looked out of place

If this is the car I'm pretty sure it might be, it left the factory as a HD wagon.
The name Dale Fisher rings a bell from the hot rodders around Castle Hill when I was young.
In 1968 I was in year 6. Over the road from school was servo with a panel beaters out the back. I went to school with the owners son, who kept us updated on a convetible they were building from a HD wagon.
I started out as a write off that had been rolled, it think it went over Galston Gorge.
I spent most of year six watching it being pushed in and of the workshop as they worked on it.
The convertible was built with a HR bonnet for a bootlid. Look closely at rear end picture, I'm sure that "bootlid" isn't a HR bootlid.
The car had two HD taillights each side like this one. Look closely at the rear view and the sides look more HD than HR to me.
It was originally yellow, I think it may have been Warwick Yellow. I believe someone from GMH saw it, and was that impressed they bought it. There was an article in Custom Rodder about it many years ago.
I may be wrong, that was 51 years ago and I've had a brain tumour between then and now, but I don't think I am.
Now, if I could only find that Leyland V8 powered EH Prem. wagon I built 38 years ago....

Im pretty sure you are right Dale Fisher and Roly Heorsch? built a few FJ Holden convertibles as well.I have a friend here who knew them and showed me pics of Australias first FJ convertible made in 1955.One body had a rollover and they used a donor car for parts when they did the conversion!..

1955. That would have been an almost new car when they did it.
Did Roly Heorsch have an orange Model A Tudor hot rod?
Also, Garry and Jim Hudson both built rods in Castle Hill.
And Mal McDonald had street registered naturally aspirated black "48 Anglia rod that ran 11.01 at Castlereagh, in 1976! That thing was mental on the street, and Mal drove it accordingly. Once was enough for me in the passenger seat.

Only that Mal McDonald name rings a bell for me.My Uncle Charlie also knows Roly who isnt very well with Dementia I think he said.I'll ask him next time I'm talking to him...
I know Dale and Roly also did this one which did the rounds for many years and is in The History of Holden book..

Hey David, would that be Garry Hudson who’s heavily involved with Macquarie Towns Hotrod at Windsor?

I don't know. I haven't seen him for 40 years.
He was a big, solid bloke with a bald head.

Me and my mate Dave would try and look over Gary's back fence when he and Jim first started building their rods in their back yard.
That must be nearly 50 years ago. That's scary.

Interesting. Sounds like it may well be the car David. Certain things shared by the car wouldn’t be replicated by others you’d think, such as the twin HD tail lights, HR bonnet as a boot/deck lid etc
