350 holley vs single barrel stromberg

Hello i have a hq premier with 202 red motor. It has a 350 holley on it atm but i also have a single barrel stromberg set to xu1 specs from a torana with the same engine. Just wondering about pros and v cons between the 2.

Xu1 Toranas came with triple cd stromberg carburettors. LJ had 175 and LC had 150 both side draught. Stick to the Holley if you only have 1 carburettor. If your single carburettor is a down draught set to xu1 specs you have been bull[Naughty Pottyword]ted to.

If your Holley is in good order and works I’d say stick to it
Save your money
You haven’t said anything about the rest of your engine or exhaust? I’m guessing you have extras
The Holley has been used for years on red 6s

if your motor is stock with no other mods the holleys a waste of time
i'd put the single stromberg back on

I'll second that.
We first had a 350 Holley on the EH.
I would have replaced it with a Weber if we hadn't got the CD150s.
Went to the XU1 CD150's and the fuel consumption dropped by 25%.
Replaced the CD150s with triple 48mm Dellortos and the highway fuel consumption dropped by about 10% more. I just won't mention the fuel it uses now when Nathan gets into it. LOL.

Old is good.

Holley should run fairly well if set right. There's not actually that much to them, and should run better by far over the stromberg. Key is getting the jetting and powervalve with the right numbers. For a 202 standard with standard cam, I'd start with 60 mains jets and around an 8.5 powervalve. If it's worked and has a large cam, you'll need to drop the powervalve size to maybe 6.5 so it kicks in/provides enrichment with the lower manifold vacuum and potentially up the mains jets to 61. There's also a lever that goes to the accelerator pump, make sure that isn't depressing on the thing at idle. It's often where people go wrong with them!

I'd rather drive my old holden than a new ford!
