Best combination 3.3 Blue out of what I have?

Hey fellas,
I'm looking for a little advice from someone more in the know than myself. I've got 2 x 3.3L blue motors from VH commodores.

1 is. 202 standardbore, very low mileage. standard pistons, running a 2.85 blue High compression head.

the other is:

3.3 blue 60thou over with ACL duralite 2's with low compression half-piston diameter dish with standard low compression head.

I've got a set of 12 port extractors, HEI distributor/coil and a weber 34adm. Also got a VK EFI camshaft here. I'm just wondering would I likely have fuel pinging issues running the higher compression standardbore engine under load? Or should I be using the lower compression one that's at a 60thou re-bore? What would be the better engine for running standard 91 unleaded?

Thanks in advance!

It shouldn't be an issue, my 202 is 20thou dish tops with 9.75/1 comp & it run's a high XU1 spec'ed 161 head & I have no issues with pinging what so ever.
I was running 98 but it prefers 95.

What carbies are you using? because past experience tells me that has a lot to do with it. My last high compression 3.3 build had issues to begin with. Couldn't drive with a single barrel stromberg past 60KPH on a straight highway. Was pinging quite seriously. Switched to a 350 holley, and that improved it significantly and was easily able to drive to speed etc, then went from there to triple SU's and was easily the same difference yet again. The thing pulled like a freight train and was so quick on the throttle. This build I am doing, I'll be putting on a ford weber 34adm. I actually know next to nothing about these carbies, so hoping it'll perform fine.

I'd rather drive my old holden than a new ford!

A bloke out here at work runs one of those ford Weber’s he was saying he happy 186-192 with a stage 2 yella terry head and headers with a 5 speed in a HQ wagon
As he said it not a race car it’s a classic cruise machine

Bryan

Motor's rebuilt and sitting in the engine bay. Using a 12 port varajet manifold and looks like the adaptor plate I've got is a 350 Holley one. Late last week I'd ordered one for the varajet manifold. Looking at the carbie, it doesn't have as stuff on it as an xf weber34. I'd say this one's off an XE falcon, as it doesn't have the fuel return. I'll do an update once I've got the adaptor plate for it and it's up and running. Thanks fellas!

Triple D - Here's the motor so far. I've put in brand new moly rings, bearings, gaskets and seals. Had to replace the balancer too because it was separating in the guts. Never actually seen one do that before, but there's always a first. I'll post up some detailed pics of the carbie soon. I'm sure it's from an XE ford.

So I'd got the weber adaptor plate today. A redline one. Problem with it is that the accelerator pump linkage hits the side of the adaptor plate well before full throttle, so unless I reversed the carbie it was essentially a no go. I did however have a varajet to holley adaptor along with a holley to weber adaptor and bolted those on. Looks fine and should do the job. Attached are some pics of how it's all sitting so far. Tomorrow I'll probably make a throttle bracket for it if I get enough time and start it up for a bit...

I ran into Bryan today at work
He said he’s got a 350 Holley manifold with a Webber adapter plate and pacemaker headers
5 speed supra box and 10 bolt diff 3.36
As he said it’s not a race car just a cruiser, with the family when he’s home,
I thought he said HQ but it’s a HK
Apparently it’s his grandparents car Hk Prem wagon

Yeah, that sounds like a nice combination. Actually almost the same combination I'll be running in my VK shortly once this project is out of the way. I've got a Celica W50 gearbox, and a borgy 3.36 LSD. Motor's a little beauty too.

For this little project though, it's just gotta do its job and run fine. if it doesn't carry on and ping under load or whatever i'll be happy.

I haven't had a chance to make the bracket for the weber 34 yet, but started the motor up and it seems to cold start, idle and throttle on quite well. I'm interested to see how the old girl will run with this carbie once I get the last few odds n ends done to get it on the road. I've got a feeling it'll be loads better than the varajet. I'll keep you all updated with progress.

Made a throttle bracket and throttle lever setup off the carbie last Saturday. Little bit of mucking around but all done now. The throttle end being non standard early holden/ford type made things a little tricky, but glad to get that done. I'm blown away about how easy this thing cold starts and runs. Very very impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if it's running just a tad rich tbh, but I'll give it a fine tune as soon as I've got the time.

Carbies running great and am starting to put together another one to run on the old VK. Never before would I have put any thought into putting a ford weber 34 onto a holden, but it does run bloody good. Soooo much better an option over the varajet!
