My wife's rodeo has essentially [Naughty Pottyword] the bed and found that it's losing compression on cylinder 3-4-5 & 6. Mechanics had done compression test and believe it's blown head gaskets. Quoted $4130 to do the repairs. The rodeo is a 99' model dual cab TF series with an 3.2L Isuzu V6 motor. I'd cracked the [Naughty Pottyword]s with it yesterday and decided to pull the motor and trans out and will be fitting a 202. I've had mixed thoughts from some people I know, but for me, atleast it's something I'm going to be able to service it and maintain with ease. I've taken the motor and gearbox out and done the measurements. It'll fit and I've isolated the wiring to allow the 202/3.3l blue motor to function in there quite fine. I'll be fabricating up the mounts friday after I do a trip out and get some general supplies tomorrow while I'm out to start on the job.
Good luck with this
I always thought you were able to upgrade your engine in a car BUT not go backwards ?
In the year 2000, I replaced my 253 with a Chev TPI 350 th700 the amount of crap I went through with Qld transport, I nearly thought the towels in
I don’t think any state will pass a 1980s straight 6 in a modern car, let alone any insurances company 🤔
But as I said good luck

Thanks mate! I know it'll work out fine. I've done plenty of measurements with the engine and gearbox out and it'll just clear in the North-South configuration, with loads of clearance in East-West for bolt-ons, exhaust etc. Plenty of wind tunnel clearance for the gearbox too, as the 202 one is a fair bit smaller than the rodeo one.
Also, I'm not too phased by regulations etc in regards to fitting the 202 in there. We don't have yearly roadworthies at this point where I live, and I'm not one to attract attention on the roads so should be well and good. I'm not being cocky or anything, but just want to keep this on the road and make it practical to service & maintain it. I'm not wealthy at all so can't afford over $4K's just to get the heads sorted on the factory motor, nor would it be worth that kinda money anyways. I do however have a plethora of old holden straight six parts, a few motors now as well as gearboxes to choose from. Not to mention I'm a metals fabricator by trade, so making it all fit isn't going to be too hard.
If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to update progress on here as I go, and post pictures of the progress etc. etc?

yeah it interests my curiosity ...as others have said it could be a legal can of worms ...compliance with emission regulations...and attract a penalty/defects if caught...something simple like just getting some tyres fitted in future may attract someones attention and report it for instance....

you can put nearly anything into anything but Transport will tell you that emissions of the engine need to meet the same emissions or better of the vehicles model year requirements

There is no way an blue six is going to meet the emissions regulations of the Rodeo motor.
All you will do is make the Rodeo unroadworthy, which will be fine until it has to be inspected, or until a copper sees it.
Why not look around for a second hand motor or cheap, basket case Rodeo parts car an use the motor from that?

If you ever had to put your hands on one of those 3.2 isuzu motors there'd be plenty of swearing and cursing for many many hours just to change a bloody head gasket set. Hence converting it over. You know the last conversion I'd done was same thing 202 in a hilux and I drove that for several years without a hitch. Was never pulled up for anything... I'm certainly not bothered this time round that's for sure.

Well, the speedo was something I was thinking about and will be using a Heads Up Display. For the power steering I'll be using the factory VC/VH commodore power steering pump connected to the steering box itself. For fuel, I'll take out the fuel tank and remove the electric fuel pump "due to high pressure fuel delivery", and replace that with a basic fuel pickup. I'll be just using the mechanical fuel pump that runs off the side of the 202.
Insurance, is something I've never had nor bothered with in my whole entire driving life of 22odd years. There's also very few transport inspectors where I'm at, and in all my time driving I've not once been pulled over for a roadside roadworthy. Also here, we don't have yearly vehicle inspections or whatever. As long as the car's rego'ed you're literally good to go. The ute looks stock and is tidy and has good tyres and isn't a noisy thing, so there's literally no reason to be stopped in the first place.
Besides, I've already gone this far so I may as well continue with it. I've made up the conversion mounts this arvo and have already test fitted the motor in and it's literally ready to go.

just imagine the lecture you would get about the environment if pulled over in your personal global warmer by Greta Thunberg! ".....People are suffering. People are dying.
