I'm sure Phil Irving worked with Ron Taranac at Repco in the early 1960s.
In Ron Taranac's biography there is mention of Holden having overheating problems in the red motor cylinder during early development heads and getting development done at Repco to fix the problem.
Maybe the iron Irving head was a design Irving developed during his time at Repco when they were working on the red six overheating problem.
Repco did some amazing stuff back then.
A lot of Brabhams F1 motor development was done there.

Old is good.

I was watching “Wide Open Road” last night. There was a bit on Ron Taranac and Jack Brabham
