Holden 179 choking out

Hi,

I donโ€™t know a lot about engines. My old hr has a 179 in it. Was running a year or so ago, now I have gone to start it. Recharged battery, chucked in some fuel etc. will turn over and run for about 10 seconds then just stalls/chokes out. Any ideas? Try cleaning carby?
Cheers..... Haz

try some carburetor cleaner to begin with - you may be lucky...otherwise remove the screws to the air horn and check the float level - see if the fuel level is too low or too high...you may not be getting enough fuel delivery ..a lot of older cars have an extra in line fuel filter fitted because of crap within the fuel system causing problems with carburetors...if the float level seems fine then you a more thorough clean ( dismantle ) of the carburetor may be in order...but start with the basics...check you are getting fuel to the carby, check the choke valve, check that the inlet manifold bolts are tight...

Whats wrong with Melbourne drug addicts sleeping all over the footpath trying to scab money?

Iโ€™d start with clean fresh fuel from a temporary bottle/can, bypass the cars fuel tank until it starts and runs for a little bit. More than likely stale fuel and gummed up carby.
