HQ GTS WHEEL INFO

Hi,
I recently purchased a GTS rim ( refer to pics) sight unseen from a friend of a friend and when I picked it up I realised it was way too rare to put on my HX. I have done a little research and have been informed that it is an early 1971 rim with the rare cast centre cap that were recalled due to safety concerns from Holden back in the day. The rim also has a new/ unused period tyre.
Just wondering if the information I have so far is true, if anyone can add to it and what it is worth as I have been told some crazy numbers?
Thank you.

if it's an original tyre have a look to see if there is a date code on it..maybe one that old doesn't have one but if it does that could be a tell tale...I don't know about the rim but a tyre that old would not be worth much as it's too old to be safely used..tyres are supposed to be changed between 7 -10 years after manufacture irrespective of use ...

Nice score.
Andrew I don’t think you’d actually fit it to a vehicle but more a correct item as a spare for the concourse crowd for showing purposes

I see what you mean - so it would have value to someone from that perspective...looking at the pictures it actually looks like its in really good condition - no signs of any cracks...but I can't decipher any date of manufacture codes..I don't know when they started putting them on tyres

Would go good as spare on display in the boot......
wouldn't use it though
the caps weren't recalled ...
they just stopped using them pretty quickly when they found out that the tags on the back which were bent over to hold them on broke off when you had to bend them again to get the cap off to fit new tyres and then bend them again when putting back, which usually broke....

Thanks for all the feed back. Does anyone know what the wheel and tyre are worth?

It’s hard to say due to its uniqueness. As there’s only the one, I’d imagine someone would only buy it as mentioned above which would mean finding/waiting for that specialist buyer who would probably pay decent coin. Or possibly to someone to replace a damaged or not so perfect one they already own a set but that means taking the Tyre off as it’ll be useless to them, so that’d be $100-$200.
As an indicator I’ve bought old spares (one at a time) and made up good sets over time. Which meant as there was only the one and not an entire set I got them cheap $50-$60 each although that was a few years ago

I agree that a few years ago they were cheap. I was paying $50 a rim but recently had to spend $150 for a decent rim only with no cap or tyre and that is now considered the norm. I have guys telling me between $500 and $1000 because of the uniqueness. I have no idea and will probably still have it sitting in my shed in 10 years time.
