Anyone successfully media blasted doors at home? Costs 75.00 to have each door garnet blasted, but weighing up whether to purchase a machine and do it myself?
Sounds messy, and dusty
Cheers
Dave
$75 per door ?
That’s sounds like a good deal to me
I’m a fifo Corrosion Industry Inspector on gas pipeline industry
I have done A LOT lol of grit blasting in auto and industry, and yes it’s a messy job and it goes through everything and everywhere lol
For that price I’d pay them
BUT if you are doing more than a couple of doors like a full car, and you have the room for this than it might work in your favour
P.S don’t forget your ppe
Dust mask clear shield and clear glasses and leather gloves and long sleeves
You will know about if you don’t 🤣🤣🤣

Yer make sure he ain't a cowboy,l find it stretches the metal and you will find sand for years there's new ones that go on your gurnie but it's using water on bare steel guess if it's a hot day and you get to it straight away would be ok l paid $250 anhour and still got a idiot that l think was still learning $750 for the whole car was for ever finding low spots and sand etc unless it's bad do it old school like l am with the one l am doing now
I have a sandblaster at home, and I have also sandblasted a diff housing at home. The cost of set up to sandblast doors at home would be dearer than to pay $75 a door. As kins has said, as long as he isn't a cowboy, pay $75 a door.

I'd done some sandblasting 20 years back myself. If you sand blast a single section just 1 second too long you'll know about it. at the end of the day, it's not something I'd use again on car body pannels, unless you're 1 of those people that don't mind spraying 100 layers of primer putty on the damn thing. I remember making about 2 weeks of extra work for myself. I wouldn't do it again...

when I was in the panel shop we used a glass beed, now a days some people used peanut shells
Ive seen what soder blasting does and there slug in ya doors jams for ages or you blow it out with air that then has particle of water in it ?
Or you just could use a stripper wheels to remove all paint ?

The non use of sand isn't due to salt, it's due to a lung disease called Silicosis.
Copy and paste:
Silicosis is a lung disease caused by breathing in tiny bits of silica, a mineral that is part of sand, rock, and mineral ores such as quartz.

I'm keen to try but not with sand. I contacted Streetneat through fb and he said he uses garnet.
I have a mask with both charcoal and dust filters. Just going to see what machines are out there.

I use garnet. Comes in 3 grades if I recall. My picture of the diff is the large garnet. For doors I would use the lightest, smallest. There is a tank type of setup. You supply the air and the tank holds the media. Tank comes with the gun. About $180 or so.

Thanks, is this the type you use? I'll check to see if my compressor is up for it.
