Old Holden oil change. How often?

At the moment, my HT V8 is no longer a daily driver. I usually change it every 5000 Miles. But these days, fact is , its lucky to see 5000 miles in 2 years.
Question is should i change it at 5000 miles or maybe once a year? even though the mileage isnt up or more often? The oil is clear and im sure its still good but just wanted to know expert thoughts. For the record I use the penrite HPR 30 20w-60. The engine was rebuilt 3 years ago so it's nice and tight.
Your thoughts appreciated,
Alby

I personally wouldn't stress too much Alby.

You'll probably find the recomended is (x)miles or 12 months, whichever is sooner.

There are many factors to weigh up though. If your car is garaged when not used, it's less likely to get condensation in the oil. If your mainly cruising when you are using your car and not thrashing it, If your using modern fully synthetic oils, the recommended oil change interval is extended quite substantially, compared with the old mineral oils which were available back when our cars were built.

If your oil is still clean looking on the dipstick, it's a fair bet it is not worn out in the slightest.

If you really want to play it safe without wasting too much money, just replace your oil filter every 12 months (as well as every oil change of course), that will definitely keep things clean.

Some of the trucks we run now, they claim 100,000km oil change intervals. I can't bring myself to take them that far between servicing, but that is the manufacturers recommendation and that keeps your warranty side of things happy and that's for a 500,000km warranty.

Goes to show how much oil quality and filtration has improved.

We all know I’m a fifo worker
So my old Holden doesn’t get a run like it should or like you guys do with yours, I’m 30 days on and 11 off
Regardless I change my oils every 12 months just to be safe then sorry,
And I used the same brand and type
After all it’s a lot cheaper too get new oils than a new engine or a rebuild 🤔

As I always say
Stay safe all

As above Alby. Last year the Monaro did 29 kilometres in the 12 months. This year so far about 10 kilometres. I just don't get time to drive it now we are grandparents doing grandparenting. I change the oil and filter every December.
