EH steering column removal

Has anyone removed an EH steering column with the motor and everything else still in place.
Our EH has a bit of play in the steering box and Nathan was thinking of putting one of my spare columns in it. I've got a spare that I've had for 17 years, the car it came from was in a shed for 10 years and had never had wide wheels on it, so it should be pretty good.
I don't think ours will come out without removing a lot of other stuff first.
Anyone done one?

Please use, Holdenpaedia will get the first box on the left side. Post any suggestions.

I did my HR, from memory I pulled it up through the floor (hope I'm not remembering wrong). You've gotta remove that floor-plate thingy surrounding it of course.
I'm assuming HRs are similar to EHs though..

On ek I couldn't pull the steering box thru the floor until I took the sub-frame off the body. Penrite Steering Box Lube worked well the few times Ive ever lubed an early holden steering box.

A taxi named after a fish blew my 5 litre Vn to the weeds.

You have tried adjusting it and putting in some new fluid? I'd also check the pitman arm and all the tierods before doing the column...And if you do decide to do it, take the seat out and also good time to clean up the wiring under there
good luck

Thanks everyone.
It's been adjusted once.
Tierods and everything are HR and all good.
I'd have to help. I'm not looking forward to it if he goes ahead.

Old is good.

Take the top off it and just check it's not something pretty obvious...you can replace some of the parts while in-situ and it also has the large nut at the end. They do wear out but usually last a very long time, unless you got fatties up front. from memory they dont like them
