HZ 202 engine into VH Commodore

Hi all,

Just wondering if there would be any issues in using a red 202 from a HZ Holden into a VH Commodore.

I plan to fit the 12 port head and retain all the original emissions gear as per the factory VH.

The original engine in the VH had VL as a prefix, the red 202 from the HZ has ZL as the prefix.

Also the HZ has 202 cast on the block and the VH block 3.3

Will there be any issues with registration?

Thanks

In some states, you can fit a later engine, bur not an earlier engine.

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

I think in all states you can't fit an older engine that the car only newer, although blocks pretty much the same, could be a technicality that screws up insurance.

just looking at the requirements for SA gov on line - you should be able to do this ok - as engine capacity is not different. You just need to comply with the emission control requirements and that would be demonstrated by an exhaust gas certificate identifying CO and hydrocarbons

From memory I seem to remember that a red block needs a hole or two drilled in it to successfully fit a 12 port head.

In Qld as long as you put all the emission control and requirements for your “blue plate” you should be right
There’s a guy in my car club in Cairns Nth Qld that has a HQ Kingswood with a 327 Chev, blue plated on the road with club rego

As I always say
Stay safe all
