Alternator light stays on

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find a related thread. I have a WB ute with 173 transplanted from a VH commodore. Since I've had it, the alternator comes on after about 5 minutes of driving, regardless of revs up till then.
So, I purchased a new 70 amp alternator from Repco and swapped it out.
Same problem. Lights still comes on.
I wondered whether there is a separate relay/regulator or something that also needs replacing; OR, if it might be something to do with the Immobiliser that it has fitted.
Furthermore, the standard ignition doesn't work, and it has a start button fitted under the dash.
So I guess my real question is this; do I burn it or take it to an auto electrician?
Any relevant advice will be considered.

Thanks team.
Rob

You could have had 2 problems.

1. The first alternator's brushws wore out.

2. The new alternator is wired incorrectly.
The 70 amp Bosch Alternator has an earth connector. If the light wire is plugged in there, the charge light will stay on.
