my understanding of Dept of Transport Qld rules is, you cannot get a set of old plates from a swap meet or shed etc and put them on your car. You can however get some made through PPQ with a 1981 number/letter series.

If you have a set of original old plates, you could order new personalised plates with the same letters and numbers if they are available, and put the old plates on the car instead of the new ones.
The downside is you would have to pay the annual fee.

No fee for personalised?
In NSW personalised plates start at $100 a year, then go up $400+ per year depending on what you want.
They were once a one off flat $25 fee and the money went to accident research, but the government privatised the plate business and prices went through the roof.

Old is good.

Another "privatise and it will create competition and the consumer will win" line. Let's hope the Sydney rail system is never privatised. Unfortunately there is a very real likelihood it will be. It won't be a win win for the commuter.

My HJ Prem has the original black and white plates
I’m in a car club and had my plates “custom” to my car through the Qld transport so I don’t have to run the “S plates”
Cost me around $ 65 I think 20 years ago
Have been told you can do this if you have a set in the shed
BUT I’m not sure
Hope this is of some help

As I always say
Stay safe all
