Skin Check

It was the day before one of my old mates Don's funeral a
few weeks ago. I looked at a red skin spot on my shoulder
and thought it was now time to get it checked out.

That was not the one - which was a Melanoma - I couldn't see
it on my back, which was luckily early stage (cut out fine).

Another month or so cancer would have gone through my body.

The Angel of Death obviously didn't like the turquoise green
colour of my old HR - is this weeks thought of the day.

Yay for Tarana Turquoise and please get your skin check as
you Donno if you also got one you cant see!

wife noticed some suspect spots on me. i'll get them checked.I live in the sun, surfing regularly and rarely use sunscreen. (I have olive skin though that tans easily)
I mentioned this because at my last few check-ups, over the past 8 years or so, I told the doctors about a mate of mine. He Doesn't work, surfs all day refuses to wear sunscreen. When I asked my mate why he doesn't, he said. "Do you know what is in that stuff? I don't . I could get cancer from all those chemicals for all I know" (He has olive skin BTW)
When I mentioned this story to the last 3 doctors at my skin check, they ALL agreed he could be right! For someone who potentially could put this stuff on his skin on a daily basis, and because he has olive skin he was in a low risk category and therefore they agreed with his thoughts. They said no one really knows the long term effects of excessive use of sunscreen yet.

BTW i'm NOT saying don't use sunscreen. I do use it on hot summer days but in the cooler months I don't bother.I'm just telling this story as food for thought about the potential dangers of overuse.

As a Nth Qld we are drum into our heads of the higher risk of skin cancer, in our schools and tv and radio
As a fifo worker in the NT at the moment with this contact, it’s compulsive to wear long sleeve shirt and long pants and wide brims on our safety helmets,
And a 50pls sunscreen is provided
And I can say NOT everyone wants to use it for the chemical reason of applying it every day for 30 days straight.
I for one 1 of these people
Some people wear it and still get sun spots

My wife just said it’s not good for your skin as it blocks the pores of your skin which doesn’t allow you to sweat probably which unturned leads trouble to your glands and leads complications to your health in the long run (she’s a smart cookie, she’s an ER nurse)

As I always say
Stay safe all
