not sure - I've seen some references to around 500 and others over 2000...I think the low thousands is probably right because in the day there was quite a few of these cars around and on the road and there is still a few on the market from time to time...although the model was struggling a bit re sales towards the end of the series the SLE represented extremely good value compared to the caprice...it was priced a bit higher than the deville but was essentially a Caprice with cosmetic changes..eg different steering wheel, gts woodgrain dash, velour instead of leather seat inserts and different emblems on the door trims..otherwise the same..outside different colours, wheels front grille and badges...the brochure linked outlines these...general parts are readily available but the specific trim/cosmetic items will be harder to source-badges may be the same as SLE commodore... you just have to keep looking and be patient...eventually parts do become available at sensible prices if you wait..https://www.uniqueca...

Hi Christine G and hubbie, good luck with the resto. A Statesman is a big car to do. Of interest though, you do not mention what condition it is in. Some pictures would be good. You'll get plenty of help on this forum. Just keep asking questions, everyone likes to help.

You ask, "...whereabouts in Australia they were made...".

At different times Statesmans were made in most of GMH's factories. The vehicle's tags will tell you exactly what factory it was built in, I believe. Write down the info and post it up here with questions. There's a lot of very knowledgeable people on here who can tell you lots about the original car from the tags, even original colours and trim.

Finally, I have an HQ DeVille and like to help. I'm located in SE Qld, in the Toowoomba area. If close by, I'd be interested to assist. If not, too bad. Respond and I'll post up a contact.

If you get it fixed up, you won't be disappointed with it's performance or cruise-ability. Great vehicles. It's gonna' use a lot of fuel but! (Assumed V8).

Cheers.
