little knowledge back in the hey days. Canada had the worlds largest asbestos mine operation in a town called Asbestos Quebec. Same disease, different name can be from mixing concrete in a barrow, we've probably all done it hey? The biggest populated countries still have not banned asbestos, China, Russia, USA, Canada and India. Kiwi land just recently banned asbestos, about 2 years ago.

And don't forget to make it real hard to import an old car from overseas because it MAY have asbestos in it. What have the new Chinese utes got in their brake linings? Oh yes... ASBESTOS!

"If your car has quarter vents, a diff at the back, and was available with wind-down windows, you may talk to me.
Otherwise I am not interested. Amen."

Is that true..I mean really true about the asbestos in the Chinese utes? Because if so I'm going to fight it out with customs

yeah mate and also in head gaskets, exhaust gaskets as well as brake components, Chinese imports, but I think it may all be good these days, maybe research it get some facts before approaching good old Customs mob. Good luck with it all. Lindsay.
PS guys if you wear work clothes blue collar type, from China don't ask what is in the blend, best wash 4 or 5 times before wearing is my advice.

Your comment on Chinese work clothes as dead right.
Iโ€™m a fifo worker as most of you knows and at present in the NT doing a gas pipeline industry,
As for the New clothes we are issued, there in plastic, and weโ€™re told to wash them at least twice before we wearing them as there in the store with everything else and as you said Chinese made,
Makes one think about his older ones hey and not looking like someone of important person or the new kids on the block ๐Ÿ˜€

Use of within Australia and importation of asbestos products to Australia was made illegal in 2003 so current imports should be compliant.Use in building work was ceased in 1984, James Hardie stopped using in building product production in 1977 but stock in stores was allowed to be sold and used for around 10 more years until banned in 1984. Other asbestos products (gaskets, brake linings etc) were in use until 2003 when total ban was enforced.

A few years back I bought a Chinese trail bike for a big camping trip weโ€™d planned. Allowed plenty of time for it to arrive but it hadnโ€™t arrived, I made inquiries and after a lot of run around and BS, I was informed that customs wouldnโ€™t release it because of asbestos brake pads. I ended up borrowing a bike off a mate.

As a child I lived in an asbestos clad house post WW2 and played with broken bits that layed around the area ( made great skimmers ! ), I worked as pipe fitter off and onshore using asbestos gaskets and asbestos lagging on pipes etc , I do not put down the danger of asbestos ( I am retired but have licence to remove and dispose of asbestos) and I have no related illness , asbestos is like smoking tobacco I guess , it doesn't get everybody , only those that are susceptible.
