LX SS L31

I was wondering if someone could provide some clarification please

I’m looking at a torana lx ss L31 M21 the VIN NUMBER in the centre of the chassis and the GM plate LX8VD77 -all number match -

the ADR COMPLIANCE PLATE BLX021978M and the chassis match

Does the vin number need to match the chassis number ? So i essence all numbers need to be the same if can u have as it is and still be an original car?

I don't think Holden ever used pop rivets on the tags.
If I am correct, this means the tags have been taken off and therefore you have no guarantee that it is the original body, or that the car hasn't been rebirthed.
Even stamped chassis numbers have been known to be cut out and put in another shell.

Old is good.

But the tags may have also been taken off for the new paint job and then pop-riveted back on. Check the history at https://www.ppsr.gov... It's not foolproof especially for older cars but it still may tell you something.

I’d suggest you have a cluey member of your States Torana club inspect on your behalf. I helped a good mate around 18 months ago negotiate a deal on an LH SLR and arranged an inspection. He actually lives in NSW but had the QLD Torana club inspect it as that’s where the car was for sale.. It did cost him (a donation, no set fee) and he was real happy with the results and it gave him peice of mind

The body tag looks like it's been cleaned up at least....
Melbourne made cars usually had the body tag on them when they got painted... so that tag should have been the same colour as the body...
Here's a Torana to compare with
