Trent congrats on getting yourself an Old Holden...a good quality mineral oil is all you need..typically 20W50 or you can even go to a 20W60 for an older worn engine, coolant - all you need is the ethylene glycol green coolant...you can remove your plugs and check their condition..have a look on line re how to look for problems...if they look ok you can just clean them up and check the gaps...don't forget to do the points at the same time...if the plugs are fouled or worn then changing them will improve the engine performance...if it's running rough though there can be many causes..ignition or fuel..good luck

It might be worth checking the air filter while you're at it.
If it's old and clogged it cost engine power.

Old is good.

Believe me,
Ya going to ask yourself “what did I get myself into”
But at the end of the day it will be all worth it when you drive down the road and get the big thumbs up from other people on the road cos there jealous lol

I’ve been using Penright oil for a while in both my old Holden’s and in the Toyota Camry
New plug and leads and points make a big difference and air cleaner and fuel filters will always bring back the old classic motor to life

if the current plugs are rooted it will, Id say change the points as well but Im starting to wonder if points made these days are worth using hence why I see blokes converting grey motors to electronic ignition. What the old plugs look like? If the motor is an oil burner its going to remain an oil burner until its rebuilt.

I had to give up trying to hot up the old holden 6 after I drove mums Avalon.

i find nulon stop smoke treatment works good on worn engines
add it to the oil
try getting a hotter range plug if its burning oil this helps with fouling of the plugs
